Job Description
The Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) is undergoing transformation to spearhead Rural Development and National Food, Feed and Fibre Security for the Nation in pursuit of Vision 2030.The Authority invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill the following positions.
Dual reporting to the Directors - [Rural Development and Agriculture Operations], the incumbents WO be responsible for overseeing crop, livestock, fisheries and wildlife production at regional estates and irrigation schemes. The Regional Managers are expected to cover the following regions: Northern Region (Harare, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central), Eastern Region (Mashonaland East and Manicaland), Southern Region (Masvingo and Matabeleland South) and the Western Region (Midlands, Bulawayo and Matabeleland North). Each applicant is required to indicate his/her preferred region.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbents' key responsibilities shall include but not limited to: -
• Preparation of crop production budgets and estimates according to annual production programmes and meeting set targets.
• Supervising soil sampling and fertilizer recommendations for the Estates and Irrigation Schemes.
• Enrolment of schemes, key value chain actors [government, developmental agencies and other key stakeholders] for assured sustainable production at ARDA Estates, Irrigation Schemes and Communities.
• Supervising logistics for inputs at Estates and Schemes.
• Achievement of set production targets for Food, Feed and Fibre crops at Estates, Irrigation Schemes and Communities.
• Coordinating Capital Expenditure Planning and procedures at Estates
and Irrigation Schemes and Community Agro-production projects.
• Ensuring timely land preparation, planting and harvesting for the Estates, Irrigation Schemes.
• Coordinating training and capacity building for Smallholder Farmers and Irrigation Schemes to ensure best management practices.
• Monitoring and evaluation Programs and Crop yield forecasts for Estates, 'ligation Schemes and Community Agro-projects.
• Preparation of Weekly and Monthly Reports for the Authority.
• Participating in strategy formulation and implementation for Rural Development and Agriculture Operations Functions.
• Identifying opportunities for rural agro economic development and planning for implementation.
• Research and Development and any other duties as maybe assigned by the Authority.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Crop Production/Agronomy/Agriculture or equivalent.
• At least seven (7) years hands on experience in managing Crops, Livestock, Fisheries and Wildlife Operations.
• Must demonstrate technical competence
