About Young Africa, Zimbabwe:
Young Africa Zimbabwe is a local organisation working in the area of employability and entrepreneurship targeting disadvantaged youth. YA’s Programme, known as the Integral Youth Development Programme (IYDP) comprises a lot of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes which include training young people for Cosmetology courses which include Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing.

Summary of Position:
The Cosmetology Trainer is responsible for coordinating, planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive training and personal development program for students at Young Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

● Source out, arrange and facilitate training that will raise the capacity and increase the self-esteem, skills, and knowledge of the youth Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing trainees.
● Providing activities that develop Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing trainees’ knowledge and skills; build capacity and independence in students.
● Preparation of detailed implementation plan for Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing trainees’ component of the IYDP with monthly and weekly breakdown of activities.
● Deliver the course throughout the year, utilizing all available resources as required for a comprehensive training.
● Ensure training meets required learning outcomes and prepares students for onward progression.
● Integration with programs and training teams for planning, implementation, and execution.
● Plan and scheme for training programmes as required.
● Deliver Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing training as required, based on direction and curriculum developed/ adopted by Young Africa.
● Assigning and assessing students’ coursework, tests, exercises, and examinations.
● Deliver Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing training in various innovative and interactive ways which include participatory methodology and use of electronic equipment as well as online teaching and learning using various platforms.
● Keep record of all required documents related to Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing training program, beneficiary selection, training, and post training evaluation.
● Coordinate with the Vocational Training Principal and the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, for parallel monitoring of activities as well as post training evaluation.
● Establish and maintains collaborative relationships with other organizations offering SRHR, life skills youth empowerment programs.
● Participate in YA dissemination activities of its programmes and courses including developing interactional material as required.
● Build teams for outreach facilitation of life skills in consultation with the Programs Coordinator to ensure that program activities are in line with set objectives.
● Mainstream the YAZ Work Readiness module into Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing training sessions so as to prepare students for active internship and participation on the job market and self-employment.
● Able to advise, educate and conduct awareness programs on any disease outbreaks and pandemics such as covid-19 to the trainees.
● Carrying out first aid on students and staff as part of Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing training.
● Assist in writing, reporting, and managing grants and seek out donations to support Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing training at Young Africa.
● Establish and maintain contact and productive working relationships with community representatives, local and international organizations, beneficiaries, and employers as related to Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing training and development.
● Work collaboratively with immediate supervisor and YA’s Finance and administration staff as required to process Purchase Requests (PR) for Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing training component.
● Keep abreast of current national initiatives and activities, develop a network of resources and contacts to further expand the Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing program.
● Explore ideas and opportunities to personalize training to increase students’ participation.
● Assist in seeking attachment for students in various Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing saloons and companies around the country and mainly in the local area and its environs.
● Following up and assessing students on attachment or industrial based training.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications, personal attributes and expected competencies:
● Minimum of a National Certificate (NC) in Cosmetology or a National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Cosmetology from a recognized institution preferably a polytechnic.
● Counselling skills.
● A higher teaching/training qualification or a Further Education Teachers’ Certificate (FETC) or a Further Education Teachers’ Diploma (FETD) or a Diploma in Education or a National Diploma in Technical/Vocational Education and experience will be an added advantage.
● An apprentice trained candidate will be an added advantage.
● Candidates living in Epworth or its environs or candidates able to commute to Epworth on daily basis without hassles are preferred.
● An acceptable and active Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing experience where applicable.
