Job Description
The incumbent will be responsible for designing, operating and managing irrigation and drainage systems at Rating Middle Sabi whilst liaising with relevant departments to produce quality yields through effective planning, coordinating and monitoring work activities which lead to an increase in productivity
Duties and Responsibilities
• Designing, implementing and optimizing irrigation and drainage systems across the farm
• Managing day-to-day irrigation operations to ensure efficient water delivery
• Supervising and leading of irrigation and maintenance teams, including staff planning and performance management
• Overseeing maintenance of bulk water supply systems and irrigation infrastructure
• Ensuring effective operation and maintenance of drip and pivot irrigation systems
• Monitoring of system performance, identify faults and implement corrective actions
• Maintain records, reports and schedules related to irrigation operations
• Promoting safe working practices and compliance with farm standards
Qualifications and Experience
• Degree in Irrigation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related field
• Proven experience in drip and pivot irrigation systems
• Strong background in irrigation system design and field operations
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage technical and general labour teams
• Experience in maintenance of bulk water and irrigation infrastructure
• Good problem-solving, planning and communication skills
• Vast experience in sugarcane production and knowledge on drip irrigation system will be considered
• Budgeting skills, Safety-Health and Environment consciousness and ability to work with minimum supervision
• Clean Class 4 driver’s licence is an added advantage
