Job Description

Ruths Pantry Foundation is a registered charity with an ethos of supporting the less priviledged in Southern Africa region.This is achieved through delivering Healthcare , Educational and Welfare projects across Southern Africa.The Foundation was born as a continuation of the work and legacy of the beloved late Ruth Pasipanodya.

We are looking for a Trustee with outstanding repute and hands-on involvement to help drive forward Ruth’s Pantry Foundation Vision.

As a Trustee of a recently founded organisation you will have plenty of opportunities to get participate in the various aspects of the Foundation’s work. This could range from drafting policies to hosting fundraising events, and helping to recruit senior employees to contributing new ideas as well as the important decision-making and wrestling with the issues of the day.
Trustees act as voting members of the Board with full authority and responsibility to develop policies, procedures and regulations for the operation of the Foundation, and monitor the Foundation's financial health, programs and overall performance.
Trustees serve as volunteers and offer their time and expertise in contribution to the attainment of the organisation’s noble cause of reaching out to the most vulnerable people in our community.

Duties and Responsibilities

This voluntary role will carry the usual responsibilities of a trustee. In addition to the traditional governance role, Ruth’s Pantry Foundation trustees will get involved in a more hands-on way, according to their particular abilities.
Trustees are expected to offer a few hours a week, or an average of a day or two per month. In addition to quarterly board meetings, other contact – usually electronic or by telephone – will be necessary.
Serving on Board committees and sub-committees as appointed or elected.
Providing general advice and assistance to the organization upon request by Board members and/or staff.
Providing reports, materials, and other items associated with Board responsibilities and activities in a timely manner.
Informing the Board of all actual and potential conflicts of interest relating to the general purposes and activities of the organization and to specific issues before the board.
Other responsibilities as requested by the Board of Directors, the Board Chair, or other officers of the Board.

Qualifications and Experience

Understanding of, and support for Ruth’s Pantry mission and vison
Willingness to operate within Ruth’s Pantry standards and procedures
Ability to attend quarterly meetings
Time and motivation to get involved in the Foundation's work
Management / Governance experience
Fluency in English, both written and spoken
Experience as a Trustee an added advantage
Experience in the NGO sector, ideally in a range of different NGOs and in management or governance (as employee, trustee or volunteer)
Understanding of the Southern African context, or experience from other developing countries
Good connections within international development, donors and/or churches
Expertise in fundraising (especially major donor, digital or community fundraising) and/or human resources (HR)
