Are you a people person with a keen eye for detail and a passion for the arts? We are looking for a versatile Gallery Tour Guide to join our team. In this role, you won't just be showing people around; you’ll be the primary steward of our collection and the face of our visitor experience.
The ideal candidate balances the vigilance of a protector with the warmth of a world-class host.
The applicant will be based at the Harare gallery.
1. Space Stewardship & Safety
You are the first line of defense for our collection. You will maintain the integrity of the gallery by:
Patrolling exhibition spaces regularly to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
Securing artworks and monitoring for any potential risks to the collection.
Maintaining the aesthetic of the gallery by ensuring spaces are tidy, organized, and dust-free.
Leading emergency protocols, including assisting in evacuations and ensuring visitor safety during unforeseen events.
Observing and documenting any incidents, accidents, or irregularities with detailed reports.
2. Visitor Engagement & Experience
You are the voice of the gallery. You will guarantee a memorable visit for every guest by:
Welcoming and greeting visitors with a professional and friendly demeanor.
Guiding visitors through the exhibitions, helping them navigate the space and discover key highlights.
Responding to inquiries regarding artist biographies, artwork titles, and general gallery history.
Distributing exhibition materials (brochures, maps, etc.) to enhance the visitor's journey.
Collecting feedback to help us continually improve the guest experience.
3. What we’re looking for;
A Vigilant Eye: You notice the small things—whether it’s a smudge on a pedestal or a visitor getting a little too close to a masterpiece.
Excellent Communication: You can talk to anyone, from seasoned art critics to school groups, with ease and clarity.
Reliability: You are calm under pressure and dependable in emergency situations.
A Passion for Art: While you don't need a PhD, a genuine interest in art history and gallery operations is highly valued.
4. The person must possess:
5 ‘O’ Levels including English Language.
Certificate/Diploma in Customer Care or Tour Guide Course preferred.
Being multilingual is an added advantage.
