Youth Advocates, a youth-led organization dedicated to advancing children and women rights and amplify their voices invites bids from qualified and experienced consultancy firms or individuals for research on child marriages and the development of an advocacy strategy under our new youth research and leadership development program Youth Advocates Leadership Academy (YALA).
With funding from UNICEF under Simuka Upenye project YALA is a transformative platform dedicated to empowering young people, amplifying their voices, and driving positive social change. With a strong focus on youth-led research and leadership development, YALA equips young researchers with the skills and knowledge needed to address pressing issues such as violence against children and adolescent wellbeing. By training young people as research partners, YALA ensures their meaningful involvement in shaping policies and interventions that directly impact their lives. Through capacity building and a commitment to ethical and scientifically sound research, YALA cultivates a new generation of change-makers who challenge social norms, advocate for their rights, and create lasting impact.

Background: Youth Advocates operates across Zimbabwe and the region, working on youth-driven projects to address behavioural, social, and structural drivers of risk tolerance among young people. We aim to combat child marriages and violence against children through comprehensive campaigns and programs, leveraging technology, community outreach, and capacity building.
Objective: The objective of this consultancy is to conduct in-depth research on child marriages in Zimbabwe, analyse the root causes, existing interventions, and policy landscape, and develop a comprehensive advocacy strategy that will raise public awareness and empower adolescents and young people to address child marriages.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work:
1. Desk Review: Conduct a thorough desk review to assess the prevalence of child marriages, explore underlying causes, and identify gaps in existing interventions.
2. Youth Research and Documentation: Work closely with the Youth Advocates Leadership Academy to train young people in conducting community-based research and documenting child marriages,
capturing the voices and perspectives of children and communities.
3. Policy Brief Development: Develop policy briefs based on research findings to inform policymakers and stakeholders about the urgency of addressing child marriages.
4. Social Behavior Change Campaign Strategy: Develop a comprehensive strategy for a social behavior change campaign, utilizing the insights from the research and policy briefs.

Qualifications and Experience

Timeline: Start 1 June
Eligibility Criteria: Interested bidders must meet the following eligibility criteria:
1. Demonstrated experience in conducting research on social issues, preferably related to child marriages or similar subjects.
2. Proven expertise in developing advocacy strategies and social behavior change campaigns.
3. Familiarity with the cultural context and challenges associated with child marriages in Zimbabwe.
4. Strong understanding of youth engagement and participatory approaches in research and program development.

1. Company/Organization Profile: Providing an overview of the bidder's experience, qualifications, and relevant project portfolio.
2. Technical Proposal: Detailing the methodology, approach, and work plan for conducting the research and developing the advocacy strategy.
3. Financial Proposal: Outlining the cost breakdown, including professional fees and any other relevant costs.
Evaluation and Selection: Bids will be evaluated based on technical expertise, experience, proposed methodology, and cost-effectiveness. Youth Advocates reserves the right to request additional information or clarification from bidders, as necessary. The selection of the winning bidder will be based on a combination of technical and financial considerations.
Please note that the consultancy will be awarded in accordance with Youth Advocates' procurement policies and procedures. Youth Advocates also reserves the right to accept or reject any bid or cancel the procurement process at any stage, without incurring any liability.
