Established in 1987, Population Services Zimbabwe (PSZ) an affiliate of Marie Stopes International Reproductive Choices (MSI), is one of the largest organisations in Zimbabwe focusing on providing quality sexual and
reproductive health (SRH)/ family planning services. In its service provision, PSZ compliments the Ministry of Health
and Child Care and collaborates with other stakeholders to provide modern and affordable products and services
through various service delivery channels which include the Public Sector, Commercial Sales, Outreach services as well as Static Clinics. PSZ is seeking outstanding candidates for the following positions:
PUBLIC SECTOR STRENGTHENING CHANEL LEAD
Location: Harare The Role
The Channel lead/Manager will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Public Sector Support Channel in
Zimbabwe for targeted growth and impact through increased access of Family planning/Sexual Reproductive
Health (FP/SRH) services in the MOHCC-public health sector facilities. The role also involves planning, organising
and facilitating formal PSS training sessions to identified PSS facilities in Zimbabwe. The incumbent will be
responsible for maintaining, enforcing and reviewing proper use of data tools for public sector program and
oversight of the Public Sector Support Channel performance against budget and targets. The role entails working
closely with Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC), Zimbabwe National Planning Council (ZNFPC) and other
important FP/SRH stakeholders including participation in local and regional workshops As needed. The successful
candidate will have a strong background in Public Health and health Systems Strengthening as well as excellent
program management and leadership skills.
Key responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for the following among other duties:
• Provide strategic leadership and vision of the PSS Channel
• Collaborate with the MoHCC and other stakeholders to implement national FP and comprehensive abortion
care (CAC) strategies in line with MoHCC guidelines.
• Analyse quarterly and monthly regional performance with each PSS coordinator & come up with an
improvement plan approach for the region
• Set priorities with PSS coordinators, for the coming year, for each Province/region
• Analyse efficiency of service delivery approaches each PSS /Province/region
• Develop and Manage projections and performance indicators for the Channel
• Review each team’s monthly work plans to ensure proper site selection and scheduling to enhance
productivity
• Oversee the capacitation of service providers in FP/SRH including training, mentoring and coaching
• Support PSS coordinators to conduct frequent meetings to review performance of each facility and discuss
strategies to improve productivity
• Work with the PSS coordinator on service utilization trend for all the services being provided by the team
• Manage program budgets, workplans and reports
• Provide direct operational & technical support to PSS Channel
• Support PSS coordinators on required PSZ client care standards to include, FP counselling techniques,
infection prevention standards, medical emergency preparedness, and other critical client care standards.
• Ensure compliance with organisational policies, procedures and donor requirements.
• Assist in orientation / induction of new and existing PSS coordinators
• Takes lead in ensuring PSZ clinical standards are adhered to in all the PSS Sites.
• Supports the training and Quality team in capacity building for PSS providers and coordinators
• Schedules timely Clinical Quality Audits and share with quality team
• Supports competency assessments for PSS service providers and PSS coordinators
About You
To succeed in this role, you must have:
• Degree in Social Science, Health Science, Development Studies or related discipline.
• Masters in Public Health is an added advantage
• Post graduate qualification in project management
• 10 years’ experience, 2 of which will be in Health Systems Strengthening, with a focus on program
management and leadership
• Family Planning certificate and experience.
• Proven experience working with government, civil society and NGO
• Health service sector background is advantageous
• Ability to present and write for multiple audiences
• Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Ability to work well with others in team environments
• Must be computer literate and have excellent report writing and presentation skills
• Clean class 4 driver’s licence
