Job Description

The role is aimed at addressing the challenges of lack of creativity and innovation for entrepreneurship and social development amongst the youth, which affects their ability to establish sustainable businesses and employment creating initiatives. The project model will link capacity building on design thinking, to promote cognizant ideation, technology-based solutions for development and facilitate partnerships and networks for mentorship and resources mobilization. To ensure the effective implementation of the project, SOS Children’s Villages in Zimbabwe is looking for the services of a Project Assistant, to support implementation of the project by providing technical, and administrative support. The project Assistant will work in collaboration with the Family Strengthening Programme Coordinator and shall be accountable to SOS Children’s Villages and her partners on management of project resources and attainment of results.

Duties and Responsibilities

Programme participation

 Create awareness on project goal, objectives and expected outputs at community level.
 Identify and engage local partners, community leaders and government structures for effective programme planning, implementation and monitoring.
 Establish and strengthen admission committees that support enrolments and programme implementation at community level.
 Work in collaboration with community and local partners in the identification and enrolment of programme participants.
 Ensure proper procedures are followed for enrolment exiting participants from the programme.
 Facilitate development of the Youth Development Plan for every registered household.
Programme planning, budgeting and implementation
 Participate in operational and procurement planning and budgeting processes.
 Implement activities as per FS budget and plans in line with the framework.
 Support families with technical knowledge and materials for effective YDP implementation.
 Facilitate procurement of project inputs to ensure adequate and timely provision to participating households.
 Undertake proper maintenance and use assigned resources
 Mainstream of cross cutting issues (HIV/AIDS, child protection, gender and environment) in all programme processes.
Work with other FS Field officers to ensure implementation of YDP interventions in assigned Wards.

Monitoring and evaluation
• Facilitate joint planning and review meetings with community stakeholders and participants.
• Carry out Youth Development plan reviews at least twice every year.
• Conduct at least three monitoring visits per year and update YDPs, Family File accordingly.
• Submit weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannually and annually progress reports to the FSP Coordinator on programme interventions.
• Track indicator performances for assigned intervention in area of operation.
• Document and share stories of change on programme interventions.
• Capture data into the appropriate databases for the program.

Qualifications and Experience

Competencies:

• Team Player
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Excellent analytical and writing skills
• ICT literacy and ability to operate with on-line web-based applications.
• Knowledge of small and medium enterprise development within the Zimbabwe economic context.
• Ability to promote knowledge sharing and learning culture.
• Focuses on impact and result for the youth and responds positively to feedback.
• Effective communication skills in various contexts: project planning, mentoring, training and making presentations.
• Ability to build strong relationships with youth and external actors.
• Strong communication skills.
Qualifications
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Management/Administration, Development Studies, Commerce or related field.
• Experience of 3 years’ in providing project management support, leading implementation, monitoring and evaluation of youth empowerment projects and related assignments.
• Proven understanding and experience in youth development issues, empowerment and current thinking relative to entrepreneurship development, and partnerships development
• Experience working with community- based organizations and micro, small and medium enterprises market in Zimbabwe will be an asset.
• Good organization and coordination skills, with experience interrelationships between different stakeholders.
• Familiarity with financial inclusion concepts, microfinance and use of technology for financial services.
• Ability to perform under tight deadlines.
