Context of the position


Established in 1949, SOS Children's Villages International (CVI) is a dynamic, international social development organization working globally to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of children without parental care and those who are at the risk of losing it.

SOS Children's Villages Association of Zimbabwe is a member of SOS International - a worldwide children's social welfare organisation, providing vulnerable children without homes with a family home and educational opportunities as well as strengthening families to reduce poverty.

Mission of the position:

SOS Children’s Villages Zimbabwe (SOSCV ZW), in partnership with SOS Children’s Villages Canada (SOSCV CA) and strategic partners, is pioneering the Youth Thrive Project in Zimbabwe. This initiative tailored, to enhance educational pathways and essential life skills for Zimbabwe's most at-risk youth, places a strong emphasis on the WISE Scholarship in select program districts.


The National Senior Scholarship Administrator (SSA), based at the National Office, will be instrumental in championing the WISE Scholarship. Acting the essential link between overarching project goals and local contexts, the SSA will head the feasibility study and closely collaborate with Guidance Counselor(s) and Youth Empowerment Coordinator(s)/Award Leader(s). Together, they will refine scholarship practices, assist in student applications, and maintain continuous communication with community stakeholders, ensuring the project’s success and relevance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key performance areas and main responsibilities:
Feasibility Study:
▪ Coordinate and validate the feasibility study of the Youth Thrive Project and WISE Scholarship Program, ensuring alignment with overarching project goals and local needs.
▪ Maintain consistent engagement with local community stakeholders and educational institutions, ensuring local buy-in.
▪ Design appropriate monitoring and evaluation frameworks for the feasibility study. Flag any issues of concern from the study and institute corrective measures.
▪ Lead regular field visits in various districts for firsthand insights on educational frameworks.
▪ Develop a comprehensive feasibility report, encompassing training needs and curricular recommendations.
▪ Ensure clear communication between local dynamics and overarching project goals, keeping the Program Manager in Canada and other relevant stakeholders informed.

Programmatic Responsibilities:
▪ Liaise with the Program Manager in Canada for the strategic steer of the WISE Scholarship Program.
▪ Engage closely with the Guidance Counselor(s), and Youth Empowerment Coordinator(s)/Award Leader(s) to help scholarship students uncover potential, enhance study habits, set career goals, and provide regular in-person support.
▪ Provide quarterly project reports ensuring adherence to donor requirements.

​Scholarship Responsibilities:
▪ Guide scholarship students in their academic journeys and future careers. Organize informative sessions, university visits, scholarship application guidance, and outreach initiatives to foster their development.
▪ Regularly interact with students, facilitating their use of the WISE Scholarship portal and assuring punctual scholarship disbursements.
▪ Foster communication between scholarship awardees, educational establishments, and other vital stakeholders. Promptly address any challenges or issues encountered by students.
▪ Represent both the Youth Thrive Project and the WISE Scholarship Program in varied internal and external arenas, including forums and donor gatherings.

Child Protection and Safeguarding:
• Raises awareness of the SOS Child Protection Policy principles to prevent and protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination.
• Reports any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Technical Competencies
• Degree in diploma in Education, Community Development, Project Management, Social Work, or a related qualification.
• At least 3 years of programmatic experience, with demonstrated capability in supervising educational endeavors.
• . A minimum of 5 years in educational administration, scholarship coordination, or a similar capacity. Prior experience in initiating or overseeing educational/scholarship programs is highly beneficial.
• Proven expertise in coordinating feasibility studies, particularly those centered around educational programs or scholarships.
• Established skills in fostering engagement with community stakeholders, orchestrating awareness campaigns, and securing local support for initiatives.
• Proficient collaboration skills, evidenced by the ability to partner with Guidance Counselor(s), Youth Empowerment Coordinator(s)/Award Leader(s), and international counterparts.
• Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, with the capability to articulate ideas, present findings, and liaise with multiple stakeholders
• Valid Class 4 Driver’s License is a requirement.

Skills & Knowledge
• Sound understanding of child rights, child development, family and community development, rights based programming and management of CBPs.
• Ability to apply community development participatory methodologies, ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Self-starter, ability to work in a team
• Experience of data collection, collation, analysis, and report writing
• Strong leadership, organizational and analytical skills, and ability to work under pressure
• Track record demonstrating high integrity, innovativeness, creativity, reliability and dependable
• Team player, Self-motivator, able to work with limited supervision.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Effective in written and verbal communication in official language of the country. Ability to communicate in applicable local language(s) is an added advantage
