ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Sustainable Roots Program is a nutrition promotion program funded by The Light
Foundation implemented in Buhera and Tsholotsho districts of Zimbabwe for a 5-year period.
The program seeks to support rural communities to increase nutritional status of women,
children, and their households by promoting production and consumption of traditional and
local foods. The program will apply regenerative agriculture, soil and water and sustainable
use of forest products to meet dietary and health needs. The SRP program will support
communities with improved access to water for domestic and productive use and will work closely Government Departments to ensure appropriate and synergistic implementation. The program is implemented by a consortium led by CARE Zimbabwe and includes Organization of
Rural Associations for Progress and Nutrition Action Zimbabwe.
POSITION SUMMARY
The M&E Specialist will provide Monitoring Evaluation, Accountability and Learning technical
expertise and hands-on support that contributes to the effective delivery of quality services and the achievement of sustained outcomes. As the Specialist, he/she will provide develop
tools needed to track progress, ensure appropriate measurements and review to support the achievement of transformational and sustained project outcomes. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities for work planning, which encompasses developing schedules and monitoring progress, leading in qualitative and quantitative assessments to ensure timely and efficient delivery of the planned activities and outputs.

Duties and Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Technical leadership for robust MEAL System.
a. Train staff on the use and implementation of refined strategies, checklists, and
guides.
b. Create coaching and mentoring guides to enhance staff capacity.
c. Conduct results-based monitoring to ensure the effectiveness of interventions.
d. Solicit feedback from field teams and stakeholders to inform the continuous
improvement of technical tools.
e. Analyse program trends, data, and feedback to inform strategic decisions on
program refinement.
f. Analyse new technologies, methodologies, or practices and make informed
decisions for adaptation.
g. Support innovation initiatives for the program
h. Lead in the development of survey tools and participate in the surveys
2. Work planning and tracking.
a. Collaborate with consortium partners to ensure appropriate program level
detailed activity planning.

b. Facilitate district quarterly review and planning meetings.
c. Represents CARE in relevant technical forums
d. Track program output and outcome level results
e. Develop checklists and guides to standardize processes and ensure quality control.
3. Documentation for Continuous Improvement.
a. Consolidate lessons learned to inform ongoing improvements.
b. Provide supportive monitoring to consortium staff to ensure adherence to best
practices.
c. Initiate and lead field level qualitative reviews of program impact to ensure key
progress is tracked and documented
d. Analyze qualitative and quantitative data and produce comprehensive reports.
e. Participate in pause-and-reflect sessions to foster a culture of continuous learning
and adaptation.
f. Develop and review manuals as needed to address identified gaps.
g. Compiles and submits quarterly reports
4. Implement and support strong community feedback and learning systems.
a. Support the community consultation processes to ensure appropriate
approaches and engagements in program implementation
b. Provide technical support to the team on establishing and maintaining effective
feedback mechanisms for decision making,
c. Lead the implementation of methodologies to consult communities on their
preferences based on the operational context.

Qualifications and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Monitoring and evaluation, Information Science,
or a related field
• 4-5 years working experience of monitoring and evaluation in emergency response
related projects at senior level with extensive knowledge of monitoring and evaluation
methodologies.
