Organic Chemistry: Lectureship/Professorship (1Post)

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant shall be expected to teach organic Chemistry e.g. natural products, photochemistry, and medical chemistry etc. courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Suitable candidates must exhibit a strong potential to attract external funding for their research and mentoring post and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong extramurally supported research program that strengthens existing natural products research and biotechnology research activities. He /She will be expected to (i) develop a strong, independent, extramurally –funded research program, (ii) develop collaborative relationships in research and contribute to outreach/extension and service functions of the department and University.

The successful candidate must be willing to establish inter-departmental and inter- institutional programs that support natural products or medicinal chemistry. The candidate will be heavily involved in product development for the innovation hub with focus on natural products and medicinal chemistry. In addition the successful candidate will be required to develop and introduce new Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses and to supervise Undergraduate and Postgraduate research projects. The eligible candidate must also be able to develop and supervise laboratory practicals, link the department with international and regional research funding institutions and actively participate in University Extension Services.

Applicants must be holders of a PhD in Organic Chemistry and must have working experience at a Tertiary Institution as a Lecturer or Teaching Assistant. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications, dates published, name(s) of journal and name(s) of co-authors if any.
