HUNGWE WIRE AND ROPE
VACANCY: ENGINEER – ROPE TESTING & MANUFACTURING
Location: Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
Hungwe Wire and Rope, a leading manufacturer of wire and rope products, is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced and technically strong Engineer – Rope Testing & Manufacturing. The position will provide senior technical leadership in wire rope manufacturing, product testing, non-destructive testing (NDT), quality assurance and manufacturing process improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide senior engineering leadership for wire rope manufacturing and testing operations.
• Lead the establishment and development of a Rope Testing and NDT function.
• Develop, implement and review testing, inspection and quality-control procedures.
• Oversee destructive and non-destructive testing of wire rope, wires and related products.
• Interpret and apply relevant ISO and other applicable international standards.
• Analyse test results and issue technical reports, certificates and recommendations to both internal and external customers.
• Investigate rope failures, product defects and customer complaints and lead root-cause investigations.
• Provide occasional technical support to production in wire drawing, stranding, closing, winding and rope manufacturing processes.
• Establish appropriate procedures for testing equipment, calibration and maintenance of the testing laboratory.
• Support product development and the introduction of new rope constructions and specifications.
• Provide technical guidance on raw-material specifications and supplier quality.
• Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, SHEQ and Sales teams.
• Develop technical competence through training and mentoring of engineers, technicians, laboratory personnel and production staff.
• Ensure that testing and manufacturing activities comply with statutory, customer and internal technical requirements.
• Prepare technical information for customers, audits, tenders and product approvals.
• Keep abreast of developments in wire rope technology, metallurgy, NDT and testing methodologies.
Qualifications and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical/Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Professional registration with the relevant engineering body will be an added advantage.
• Additional qualifications in NDT, materials testing, metallurgy or quality management will be highly advantageous.
EXPERIENCE
• At least 5 years' relevant engineering experience, preferably in wire rope, steel, mining, heavy manufacturing or a related industrial environment.
• Strong practical knowledge of wire rope design, construction and manufacturing.
• Demonstrable experience in destructive and non-destructive testing.
• Experience in establishing or managing a testing laboratory or technical testing function will be an advantage.
• Experience with failure analysis and root-cause investigations.
• Good knowledge of manufacturing quality-control systems and ISO 9001:2015.
• Experience working with engineering standards and technical specifications.
• Exposure to the mining industry and mining-related wire rope applications will be an advantage.
