Job Description

The Dispensary Assistant supports the efficient operation of the dispensary by assisting with medication dispensing, stock management, record keeping, and ensuring quality client service in line with regulatory and facility guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists in dispensing medicines under the supervision of a Pharmacy Technician.
• Labels medicines accurately and provides basic usage instructions to clients as directed.
• Ensures correct quantities and packaging of medicines.
• Refers clients to the Pharmacist/Clinician for counselling or clarification when required.
• Receives, unpacks, and arranges medicines and medical supplies.
• Maintains accurate stock records and updates stock cards or electronic systems.
• Monitors stock levels, expiry dates, and storage conditions.
• Assists with stock counts, reporting shortages, expiries, and damages.
• Maintains dispensing registers and other required documentation.
• Files prescriptions and treatment records in line with facility procedures.
• Supports reporting requirements for medicines and commodities.
• Adheres to Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) and infection prevention and control (IPC) standards.
• Ensures cleanliness and organization of the dispensary area.
• Follows standard operating procedures and confidentiality requirements.
• Assists with patient flow within the dispensary.
• Supports audits, supervision visits, and inspections.
• Performs any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of Ordinary Level education (including Mathematics and English).
• Certificate in Pharmacy Assistance or related health qualifications is an added advantage.
• Previous experience in a dispensary, pharmacy, or health facility preferred.
• Basic computer literacy is an advantage.
