Job Description

Under the general direction of the Workshop Manager, the Chargehand shall be responsible to competently coordinate and supervise all Auto Electricians in all auto-electrical fleet maintenance activities by ensuring consistent service availability to user departments by inspecting, carrying out routine, and preventative and scheduled/planned maintenance activities. Should also coordinate the disassembling and assembling of related equipment and accessories from technical manuals, written procedures and/or verbal instructions while enforcing adherence to all company safety and quality standards including SOPs. To perform any other duties as assigned by the Workshop Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervises Auto Electricians consistently in carrying out routine, preventative and planned maintenance checks/activities for the fleet at hand enforcing 100% compliance to SOPs
• Carrying out routine, preventative and planned maintenance checks within area of responsibility with 100% compliance to SOPs.
• Delegate’s tasks to Auto Electricians and makes consistent follow ups for all reported breakdowns immediately as they happen and ensure tasks are completed with “zero re-dos” within allocated time enforcing safety standards.
• Allocates tasks to Auto Electricians as per daily work orders and do quality control checks on completed task and monitor that work is completed within specified time frames with “zero re-dos”.
• Directs and trains subordinates to install, maintain, repair and overhaul assembles and accessories of all vehicles.
• Coordinates and performs repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls on major assemblies.
• Completes work order documentation after every performed task(s) the same day of occurrence.

Qualifications and Experience

• NC/ND Auto Electrics with minimum of 5 years’ experience working with heavy vehicles.
• Apprentice Trained Journeyman Auto Electrics with 5 years’ experience working with heavy vehicles of which 3 years should been on supervisory role,
• Experience in light vehicles, tractors, yellow machines, trucks and buses both diesel and petrol.
• Ability to read and interpret user manuals correctly,
• Excellent diagnostics and fault rectification skills for the fleet at hand.
• Highly knowledgeable in today’s automotive technology to include, computer systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, steering systems, & drive trains for heavy trucks and automotive equipment.
