Job Description

An exciting opportunity has risen for a suitably qualified and self-driven individual to join a vibrant & fast-growing horticulture farm for a Horticulture Specialist position. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing horticultural projects for a diverse range of customers. This role requires a combination of solid agricultural knowledge, management skills, and a passion for plant cultivation

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement crop plans based on market demand, climate conditions, and soil characteristics.
• Plan and execute planting, harvesting, and irrigation schedules.
• Optimize crop yields through efficient farming practices.
• Coordinate planting schedules, crop rotations, and cultivation practices to optimize yield and quality.
• Collect and collate information on horticulture growing, harvesting and marketing conditions on the farm.
• Draft technical specifications for the procurement of agricultural inputs, and plan the quantities of inputs to be procured at the farm.
• Monitor soil health and implement appropriate soil management practices, such as fertilization, irrigation, and pest control.
• Conduct soil tests and interpret results to adjust nutrient levels and maintain optimal growing conditions.
• Implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to control pests and diseases.
• Monitor crops regularly for signs of infestation or disease and take corrective actions as needed.
• Plan and coordinate harvesting schedules to maximize freshness and quality.
• Oversee post-harvest handling, including sorting, packaging, and storage to maintain product quality.

Qualifications and Experience

Person Specifications
The ideal person must possess the following:
• Degree/ Diploma in Agriculture from a reputable institution.
• Proven experience in horticulture, with a strong portfolio of successful projects.
• Knowledge of local plant species, climate conditions, and horticultural best practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Project management skills and attention to detail.
