SOS Children's Villages Association of Zimbabwe is a member of SOS International - a worldwide children's social welfare organisation, providing vulnerable children without homes with a family home and educational opportunities as well as strengthening families to reduce poverty.
Position title: Youth and Education Volunteer
Working location: Bulawayo and Bindura
Mission of the position:
The Volunteer will be responsible for guiding SOS youth according to SOS CV policies and procedures towards independence so that when they leave the care of SOS CV, they are self-reliant and contributing members of society. In achieving this, the YPOV should be seen as a role model, providing advice, supporting the education program, guidance on life skills, support, and a positive example to the youth in their development from adolescence to adulthood. (Accompanying young people to self-reliance) Lastly, the position requires the officer to develop and implement youth programs.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
• Arrange programs for youth employability, involvement in community projects, and job-related attachments and placement.
• Facilitates participation of young adults in setting objectives for youth using a participatory approach
• Conducts individual or group counseling sessions and/or facilitates referral.
• Link youths with relevant community structures for smooth and sustained integration.
• Contributes to the Foster Care option towards integration.
• Designs youth's overall personal, development plans and evaluation (PDP updates)
• Facilitate participatory and smooth exit form care for each youth guided by necessary guidelines and policies e.g. (Youth Development User Guide)
• Facilitate the implementation of empowering ASRH programs for youth.
• Ensure a functional aftercare program and database for current and exited youths.
• Collaborate with other facilities on psychosocial support activities for the target group.
• Collaborate with the families to promote the continuance of mother and youth relationships.
• Ensure all reports required are produced and submitted on time to inform decision-making upstream.
• Support the sponsorship program through Data collection and writing of sponsorship letters
Qualifications and competencies
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in development studies, Social Work, related social science degree
• A self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision,
• Excellent written and oral communication skills,
• Detail-oriented and able to demonstrate excellent administrative and organizational skills, and Good interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in Ndebele a must for Bulawayo position
