ZHI is currently recruiting for the following position under the STOP TB Project. The project aims to support the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) in reducing TB morbidity and mortality by enhancing access to high‑quality TB prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services. Implementation will take place across several districts, including Midlands (Gokwe South, Gweru, Kwekwe, Shurugwi, Zvishavane), Manicaland (Buhera, Chipinge, Mutare, Mutasa), Matabeleland South (Beitbridge, Gwanda), Matabeleland North (Nkayi), and Bulawayo.

Position Summary

The X-ray Technician is a member of the technical team at district level responsible for taking X-rays for all clients identified to be at risk of TB disease. The X-ray Technician will be part of the roving team that conducts TB screening and diagnostic testing within communities and targeted high-volume health facilities.

Support the identification of TB transmission hot spots working closely with the field officers, district health information officers (DHIOs) and the informatics partner,
Conduct district-based TB screening outreaches in communities and high-volume health facilities using ultra-portable digital X-ray machines,
Preparing and positioning patients for imaging procedures, explaining the process, and ensuring comfort and safety,
Operating X-ray machines and adjusting equipment settings to produce high quality diagnostic images,
Monitoring radiation exposure and applying safety protocols to minimize risk to patients and staff,
Maintaining and cleaning imaging equipment, ensuring proper functioning, and reporting malfunctions,
Recording and managing patient information accurately, including verifying patient identity and reviewing clinician’s instructions,
Collaborating with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate diagnostic information,
Participate in integrated community health outreaches with other health programs,
Support development of monthly and quarterly program implementation work plans,
Conduct site support and learning visits to support TB screening and diagnosis activities at facility and community level through a roving mechanism,
Participate in quarterly, data-driven program review meetings with district MOHCC and project staff,
Compile and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly TB program activity reports,
Actively monitor functionality of X-ray machines and stock status of consumables,
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Requirements

The post holder must maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, organisational policies, and statutory obligations, including safeguarding requirements. As the role may involve engagement with vulnerable populations, the post holder must have a clear safeguarding record and meet all safeguarding standards applicable to donor funded programmes.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Technical knowledge of radio graphic principles, procedures, and equipment,
Strong attention to detail for accurate imaging and documentation,
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to guide patients,
Physical stamina to stand for long periods and handle equipment and patients,
Compassion and empathy to support patients during potentially stressful procedures,
Ability to deliver high volumes of work with minimal supervision,
Willingness to travel to multiple districts, health facilities, and communities.

Qualifications and experience

Diploma or degree in radiology / radiologic technology,
Valid license and practising certificate,
At least 3 years experience in taking X-ray images, preferably at district level,
Proficiency in desktop software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) is a requisite.
