Job Description

Our client in motor industry is looking for workshop test driver to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will need to be able to carry out quality control / test drives on vehicles that have successfully been repaired / serviced. The candidate must be articulate in that he would also oversee the wash bay process and must be able to ensure that all vehicles coming out of wash bay are inspected before being handed over to the Service Advisors. To carry out road tests on vehicles that have been released by the Workshop Controller after completion of any services carried out. To oversee the process of the vehicle(s) undergoing cleaning in the wash bay.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Drives completed serviced / repaired motor vehicles, and observes performance to detect mechanical and structural defects: Examines vehicle before road testing to ensure that equipment, such as electrical wiring, hydraulic lines, and fan belts, are installed as specified, and verifies that vehicle has been serviced with oil and water. Confirm with the workshop controller that the vehicle battery has undergone load testing and if not, effect such load testing to form part of the testing process. Listen for rattles and excessive mechanical noise, and moves controls to test functioning of equipment, such as hooter, heater, wipers, and power windows.

Duties and Responsibilities

Check that all mandatory equipment such as reflective tape, vests, triangles etc are installed in the vehicle and if they are not, make a report to the Workshop Controller about their condition / absence in the vehicle. Oversee wash bay staff to ensure that protocol is observed on the following: Correct chemicals are being used to wash vehicles e.g. Car Wash and Window Wash, Each vehicle is checked to confirm the cleanliness of the vehicle before being released to the Service Advisor paying particular attention to any damages seen on the vehicle and noting such damages to the Workshop Controller. Materials used to clean vehicles are clean e.g. wash clothes and hoovers. Washbay area is void of any oil and debris from client’s vehicles and to ensure that mops are cleaned as well as trays are cleaned and not left dirty. Traps need to be monitored and clean at least once a month. Oil separators to be monitored and cleaned at least once a month. Monitor time and efficiency of washbay staff. Notify the Workshop Controller of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs. Cooperate with all team members.
