Context of the position


Established in 1949, SOS Children's Villages International (CVI) is a dynamic, international social development organization working globally to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of children without parental care and those who are at the risk of losing it.

SOS Children's Villages Association of Zimbabwe is a member of SOS International - a worldwide children's social welfare organisation, providing vulnerable children without homes with a family home and educational opportunities as well as strengthening families to reduce poverty.

Mission of the position:

We are looking for Volunteers for one year of Volunteerism in the family strengthening Program. This Volunteer will have an opportunity to give back to the community while gaining exposure to practical application of knowledge and developing relevant skills and establishing professional networks in programming

Duties and Responsibilities

Key performance areas and main responsibilities:

• Support the Green Energy Field Officer and Community Based Volunteers to ensure smooth implementation of activities at district, ward and community level.
• Effectively work with Ward stakeholders who provide leadership and technical support to the FS Green Energy project.
• Conducting Home visits to support families participating in the Green Energy project.
• Gathering issues from families and children and presenting them to the Project Officer for address
• Regularly monitoring progress of families’ Family Development Plans together with the Green Energy Field Officer and Community based Volunteers.
• Conducting regular meetings (including monthly) and taking minutes
• Implementing innovative, sustainable approaches to green energy eg biogas and natural resources management.
• Conducting joint meetings with the green energy Project Officer and Community based Volunteers for progress review
• Contributing ideas and plans to the program to ensure children’s voices are always heard
• Identifying child safeguarding risks and possible solutions to reduce them in natural resources management. These are submitted to the green energy Project Officer who will include the risks in the Program’s risk register.
• Participating in program evaluations and reviews

Qualifications and Experience

Requirements

Competencies:

• Proven self-starter with the ability to drive the delivery of measurable outcomes/results and overcome obstacles when working with and through others.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Excellent analytical and writing skills
• Knowledge and the ability to apply communication methods and techniques.
• Ability to lead project planning, results-based management and reporting including documentation of success stories.

Qualifications
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, business administration, climate change, agricultural economics, or a related field.
• Experience of 1 years in providing project management support, leading implementation, monitoring and evaluation of youth empowerment projects and related assignments.
• Good organization and coordination skills, with experience interrelationships between different stakeholders.
• Ability to perform under tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills.
