Job Description

Position Summary
The Urban Resilience Coordinator will provide overall strategic direction and oversight while ensuring the projects are effectively implemented on schedule and to maximum benefit of the intended beneficiaries. He/she will take lead in the identification, management, and implementation of all urban resilience interventions under DCA portfolio. He/she will ensure nexus between urban interventions and other sectors in DCA, more important is the humanitarian-development and peace building. The position has a strong emphasis on program coordination, management and implementation, development of viable business portfolios for poor and vulnerable urban communities, team management, capacity building of national staff, and technical support to partners to ensure successful and high-quality implementation of programmatic activities..

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
Identify and/or create viable resilience interventions that are best suited to the context of beneficiaries living in poor urban and peri-urban domains; Lead the design and refinement of DCA’s livelihoods and resilience activities; Develop detailed work plans and budgets; Activities will include but are not limited to initiatives related to value chain analysis, value chain growth plans, community-managed disaster risk reduction; Provide overall strategic direction and oversight on resilience activities and ensuring nexus with other sectors in DCA; Work with local partners for the timely and efficient implementation of the selected livelihood and resilience activities for the maximum benefit of the intended beneficiaries; Act as DCA’s technical focal point for all livelihoods and resilience initiatives and work in close collaboration with the relevant technical leads of consortium agencies and the consortium’s Technical Working Group members; Ensure timely and quality delivery of all programme reports and monitoring and evaluation requirements to ensure project quality, relevance and accountability to DCA's beneficiary populations; Promote professional development by identifying training and capacity building opportunities and ensure partners and staff are well versed in essential livelihoods and resilience concepts.

Qualifications and Experience

Skills and qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Studies or related field required. Master's degree in Strategic & Business Management, Development Studies, Urban Planning, or Public Policy related field a plus; At least five years relevant work experience. Experience in urban based projects in the humanitarian/ development INGO sector an added advantage; Able to solve complex problems through a reciprocal and consultative approach; Strong program/technical and budget management skills, planning, reporting, monitoring and evaluation skills; Strong technical and operational understanding of urban development programming in a marginalized context; Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively represent DCA at forums and with donors; Ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and persuasively with senior internal and external partners.
