Job Description
Under the supervision of the Workshop Foreman, the Trailer Mechanic shall be responsible for the general maintenance of all trailer both break bulk and tankers, attend to all trailers breakdowns immediately as they happen, carry out COF preparations and repairs for on trailers, to mention but a few. Duties and Responsibilities
Carry out routine testing of repaired trailer systems following laid down SOP.
Attend to all pneumatics and hydraulic problems on trailers.
Carry out Certificate of Fitness (C.O.F) preparations and repairs.
Conduct general maintenance and service of trailers.
Adjusting, repairing or replacing parts and components of vehicle systems including chassis, frame, airbrakes and hydraulics.
Diagnostics and repair trailer bodies, systems and components.
Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance checks on trailers.
Liaise with the stores for any arising jobs that require purchase of parts as required.
Timely report back on any additional work that may affect dispatch.
Diligently complete pre trip inspections following up by completing inspection sheets and job cards to ensure that work completed is captured and recorded in a logical manner to facilitate Cost per Unit Review and Trend Analysis.
Complete work order documentation for all assigned repair jobs and record all additional repairs and parts and ensure that a checklist has been performed 15 minutes before daily shutdown.
Attend to breakdowns immediately as they happen and ensure that tasks are completed with zero redo.
Perform any other duties in line with the above as assigned by the superior.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Class 1 Mechanic
At least 5 years’ experience working Henred and BPW Trailers.
Basic welding skills and Auto Electrical
Clean Class 2 Drivers License a must.
Must be mature and able to work under pressure with little or no supervision.
