Job Description

1. Background
Human Impact Hub (Hi-Hub) is a non-governmental organization committed to driving sustainable social and economic impact through innovative programs and partnerships. Hi-Hub works to empower communities, promote inclusive development, and influence positive policy change.
Since the development of its Communication Strategy in 2022, the organization’s context, communication tools, and stakeholder landscape have evolved significantly. Emerging digital technologies, shifting audience preferences, and new strategic priorities necessitate a comprehensive review and update of the existing Communication Strategy. This will ensure that HIH’s communication efforts remain effective, relevant, and aligned with its mission and vision.
2. Purpose of the Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to review and update Human Impact Hub’s Communication Strategy to strengthen the organization’s visibility, stakeholder engagement, brand positioning, and advocacy impact.
The updated strategy should:
• Reflect the current organizational goals and priorities;
• Align with the external communication environment and digital trends;
• Enhance Human Impact Hub’s internal and external communication systems; and
• Provide a practical roadmap for implementing effective communication and outreach initiatives

Duties and Responsibilities

3. Objectives
The overall objective of the assignment is to review and update Human Impact Hub’s communication’s strategy
The specific objectives of the review and update are to:
1. Assess the relevance, effectiveness, and efficiency of the existing Communication Strategy.
2. Identify gaps, challenges, and opportunities in Human Impact Hub’s current communication approaches.
3. Review how Hi-Hub’s communications align with its organizational strategy and stakeholder expectations.
4. Develop an updated, evidence-based Communication Strategy and implementation plan.
5. Recommend appropriate communication tools, channels, and messaging frameworks.
6. Strengthen Human Impact Hub’s internal communication and information-sharing mechanisms.
4. Scope of Work / Key Tasks
The consultant/consulting team will be responsible for:
1. Document Review
o Review the current Communication Strategy and related policies, reports, social media content, and branding materials.
o Analyze Human Impact Hub’s strategic plan, annual reports, and relevant communication outputs.
2. Stakeholder Consultations
o Conduct interviews or focus group discussions with Human Impact Hub’s staff, partners, donors, beneficiaries, and other key stakeholders to gather feedback and insights.
3. Assessment of Current Communication Practices
o Evaluate current internal and external communication channels (e.g., social media, website, publications, media relations, events).
o Assess branding consistency, audience engagement, and digital presence.
4. Development of an Updated Communication Strategy
o Draft an updated Communication Strategy aligned with Human Impact Hub’s strategic direction.
o Include key components such as:
▪ Communication goals and objectives
▪ Target audience segmentation
▪ Key messages
▪ Branding and visual identity guidelines
▪ Media and digital engagement plan
▪ Crisis communication plan
▪ Monitoring and evaluation framework for communications
5. Validation and Finalization
o Present the draft strategy to Human Impact Hub’s management and key stakeholders for feedback.
o Incorporate feedback to produce the final Communication Strategy and an actionable implementation plan (including timelines, responsibilities, and resource needs).

Qualifications and Experience

6. Duration and Timeline
The assignment is expected to take approximately 7 weeks, commencing from the date of contract signing. A detailed timeline will be finalized in consultation with HIH’s management team.
7. Reporting and Supervision
The consultant will report to the Director of Programs at Human Impact Hub and work closely with the Media and Communications Officer for technical guidance. Regular progress updates will be required during the assignment.
8. Consultant Qualifications and Experience
The selected consultant or firm should possess the following qualifications and experience:
• A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
• At least 5years of professional experience preferably for NGOs or development organizations.
• Strong understanding of digital communication, branding, and media engagement.
• Excellent facilitation, analytical, and writing skills.
• Familiarity with the social impact or development sector in Southern Africa/ Zimbabwe will be an added advantage.
9. Budget and Payment Schedule
The consultant/firm shall propose a total budget (in USD) inclusive of all applicable taxes, with a detailed breakdown of consultancy fees and direct costs related to the assignment.

All tariffs, duties, and applicable taxes during the execution of the assignment shall be borne by the consultant/firm.
Payment Schedule:
• 20% upon submission and approval of the Inception Report.
• 40% upon submission of the Draft Communication Strategy.
• 40% upon submission and approval of the Final Communication Strategy and Implementation Plan.
