Job Description

1. The ZCC seeks a paper and presentation on Reparation to be presented during a Conference, to be
held in March 2025. The objective is to produce a research paper on reparative justice rooted in biblical
theology and context of Zimbabwe. Specifically, the paper should provide answers, and guidance,
based on our faith, for engagement in the Church and the public space on matters of Reparations.
The paper should provide theology and new thinking of reparative justice within the national context
and its intersectionality across various thematic areas such as Climate Justice, Economic Justice,
Colonialism, Slave Trade, Systemic Inequalities, Land Reform in Zimbabwe. The paper should bring
to the fore the critical Biblical foundations, traditions and teachings that are catalytic for entrenching
justice, fairness and equality in Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities

2. Objectives

To critically analyze the historical, socio-economic, and political injustices in Zimbabwe
that necessitate reparations and its intersectional thematic areas on land reform, climate
justice, colonial exploitation, and systemic inequalities.
To explore international and regional frameworks, best practices, and case studies on
reparative justice that can inform Zimbabwe’s context.
To develop a theological and ethical framework for reparations rooted in biblical principles
and African cultural values.

3. Scope of Work:

Literature Review:
Conduct an in-depth examination of global and regional literature on reparative
justice.
Contextualize findings to Zimbabwe, highlighting historical and contemporary
implications.

Theological Analysis:
Analyze biblical perspectives on reparations through case studies and theological
traditions.
Identify scriptural foundations for justice, fairness, and restitution.
Thematic Exploration:
Investigate critical thematic areas such as climate finance, economic justice, gender
justice, and historical land reform.
Explore their intersectionality and relevance to Zimbabwe’s reparations discourse.

Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, faith-based
organizations, civil society, and government officials.

Collect qualitative and quantitative data to inform the research.
Research Presentation and Accessibility:
Prepare a comprehensive research paper with detailed findings and analysis.
Develop a simplified version of the paper for grassroots communities in local
languages.
Present the research findings at the Reparations Conference in March 2025.

Desired Outcomes:
Increased understanding of reparative justice among Zimbabweans and the wider population
on its implications in various socio-economic contexts.
Formation of a dialogue that can lead to a national conference on the reparative justice
framework within Zimbabwe.
Identification of actionable pathways for changemakers, policymakers, and government
officials toward a reparative justice framework.
Development and dissemination of research papers and simplified versions that are
linguistically and contextually appropriate for local communities.

Expected Deliverables
A research paper (maximum 15 pages) with:
A 500-word abstract.
A 1-page executive summary.
Formatting: Calibri, size 12, single spacing.
A simplified version of the research paper in local languages for community distribution.
A presentation of the findings at the Theological Conference/
The above deliverables should be sent through by the 18th of February 2025.

Proposed Scope and Methodology:
Outline the scope of research and methodology for its development.
Include timelines and a reporting framework.

Financial Proposal:
Provide a detailed budget and fee structure for the consultancy.

Annexes:

Include any additional documentation supporting the application (e.g., references or
endorsements).

Experience and Expertise:
Provide a CV detailing qualifications and relevant experience.
Submit samples of previous research papers or related materials.
