1. Background
Unpaid care and domestic work (UCDW) are vital to households, communities, and economies but remain largely invisible in economic planning and policy making. In Zimbabwe and across the SADC region, women and girls bear a disproportionate share of this work, reinforcing gender inequalities and limiting their access to education, economic opportunities, and public participation.
Integrating care work into macroeconomic and social policy frameworks is essential for gender equality and inclusive development. Valuing and redistributing UCDW through progressive care policies can reduce inequalities and promote shared prosperity.
The Analysis and Audit of Progressive Care Policies in the SADC Region will assess how member states address care policy development and implementation, providing evidence to guide advocacy, programming, and policy engagement.
