LIBRARY DEPARTMENT.

DESCRIPTION

The Sub Librarian shall be responsible for the development, implementation and management of research support. The Sub Librarian participates in the management of MSU Campus Libraries or Sections in line with the University’s Education 5.0 obligations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manages the University’s Research Data Management Platform.
Provides research support to students and staff.
Provides management with information on impact, bibliometrics, altmetrics as well as citation analysis.
Provides advice and guidance to academic staff on issues relating to Open Scholarship such as Open Access, Open Educational Resources and the MSU Institutional Repository.
Assists academic staff on research data management.
Leads in the development of programmes of research support for academic colleagues including preparation of research data plans for funding.
Reviews current and emerging trends on research support in the academia and advice on best practices.
Develops print and digital promotional materials that effectively communicate the library’s mission and services.
Provides content to upgrade the Library’s webpage and electronic subject guides.
Prepares instructional materials for information literacy skills training.
Trains students and staff on accessing all subscribed electronic resources, use of referencing tools, copyright issues and institutional repository access.
Ensures that learning and teaching materials remain relevant and visible to both students and academics.
Oversees the smooth running of Campus Libraries or Library Sections.
Monitors the effectiveness of services and contributes to their development and promotion.
Participates in providing general library orientation sessions to students.
Assists in the development of library policies and standard operating procedures.
Participates in community engagement activities for the Library.
Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

MSc Degree in Library & Information Science and an undergraduate degree in Library & Information Science.
OR MSc Degree in Library and Information Science and any other undergraduate degree plus a Higher National Diploma in Library and Information Science.
At least three (3) years post qualification experience in a University Library at Assistant/ Senior Assistant Librarian Level.

SKILLS REQUIRED

A clear understanding of the role of libraries within scholarly communications.
Sound working knowledge of learning technologies and a willingness to embrace digital practices.
Management and supervisory skills.
In-depth appreciation of information and digital skills literacy is a prerequisite.
A very good understanding of Education 5.0 and broad knowledge and expertise in achieving user satisfaction.
Willingness and ability to engage with professional networks.
Strong interpersonal skills.
