Job Description

CURE is seeking candidates for the position of Spiritual Director at its hospital in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. As a member of the hospital senior management team, it is the responsibility of the Spiritual Director to serve as the spiritual leader to the hospital team, counseling coordinators/care coordinators under the hospital country model, patients, patient families, and the community that the CURE hospital serves.

The spiritual leadership that the Spiritual Director provides is both creative and innovative and is done in accordance with the CURE Essential Standards for Spiritual Ministry with a particular focus on the three pillars of spiritual ministry, which are patient evangelism, staff discipleship, and community engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

Collaborate with the hospital senior management team and the Senior Director, Spiritual Ministry (as a resource) to identify ministry objectives under the three pillars of spiritual ministry. This should be done in a way that promotes Integral Mission.
Design, implement, and supervise ministry programs in all three pillars that seek to carry out the mission of CURE.
Manage and maintain a Spiritual Team that includes both Hospital Spiritual Team members and the Specialty Program counseling coordinators/care coordinators.
Identify potential visiting clergy and lay persons to be considered in meeting hospital mission objectives.
Establish and model standards of Christian conduct for CURE co-workers, patients, patient families and the community that the CURE hospital serves.
Communicate effectively with department leaders, physicians, and other co-workers to ensure that proper spiritual patient care emanates from every discipline within the hospital.
Create and implement a strategy for staff discipleship.
Under the umbrella of staff discipleship, provide spiritual care for CURE co-workers.
Under the umbrella of community engagement, oversee spiritual outreach events in the community.
Collaborate with the Medical Director on planning for the participation of Spiritual Team members in mobile clinics as part of the hospital community engagement efforts.
Train CURE co-workers and community leaders for participation in CURE-sponsored outreach events as part of the hospital efforts to engage with the community.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualified candidates for this position will possess the following:​

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, preferably with a focus in Bible or Theology.
Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience as a pastor or chaplain within a health institution or similar setting.
Prior experience with coordinating and directing evangelistic outreach programs, preferably for children and their families.
Fluency in English and national language of the respective country.
Demonstration of a mature Christian faith with a close personal relationship with the Lord as evidenced by a strong prayer life, a commitment to and love for the Word of God, and a call to evangelism.
Demonstrated ability to conduct counseling in a Biblically appropriate manner.
Demonstrated ability to share the gospel and lead individuals of all ages to Christ.
Demonstrated ability to preach to groups of all sizes. Demonstrated ability to lead small group, inductive Bible studies (e.g. Christianity Explored, Discipleship Explored, departmental devotions, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to lead conflict resolution/mediation (e.g. Peacemaker materials).
Demonstrated ability to minister to oral learners (e.g. Orality materials).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent team-building and networking skills.
