Job Description
Analysis of soil samples for different soil physical and chemical properties and interpretation of the results therefore for practical use by farmers.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Receiving and preparing organic and inorganic soil-plant related samples for analysis.
• Providing analysis of soil, plant, manure/compost, fertilizer and water samples for chemical, biological and physical properties.
• Organizing, reporting and archiving of accurate records of results.
• Proficient in calibration and use of technical instruments and equipment.
• Communicating scientific information appropriately through digital software.
• Liaising with the scientist on soil and plant management recommendations following tests.
• Keeping labs clean, sanitized, and safe, maintaining scientific instruments, and ensuring that supplies are accessible for scientists.
• Developing of laboratory SOPs and setting up for SAZ accreditation.

Qualifications and Experience
1. Education and Qualifications
• Higher National Diploma in Applied Chemical Technology/ Chemistry/Instrumentation or similar programs is required
• A relevant science based bachelor’s degree is a distinct advantage.
2. Prior work experience
• At least 4 years’ experience in a soil analytical laboratory
• Experience in other agricultural labs may be considered.
3. Knowledge skills and abilities
• Experience with soil, plant, compost, water and fertilizer analysis.
• Conversant with the operation and calibration of instruments such as Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), UV–VIS
spectrophotometer and colorimeter.
• Comfortable with wet chemistry analytical techniques such as titrimetric, volumetric & gravimetric analyses, Gas chromatograph & acid digestion.
• Good data organisational and reporting skills using digital software.
• Good communication skills with different stakeholders in the agriculture sector.
• Great team player.
• Holder of a clean Class 4 driver’s licence.
