Job Description

The Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) is the largest and comprehensive Open & Distance Electronic-Learning (ODeL) university in Zimbabwe that offers lifelong learning in an affordable and flexible manner. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced professionals to fill the vacant post(s) that have arisen within the University.

Software Engineer, Education Technology (1 Post): Ict

Duties and Responsibilities



Main Duties And Responsibilities

• Identification, Assessment and Implementation of Technologies to support teaching and learning;
i. Analysing teaching and learning procedures and identify opportunities to enhance service delivery;
ii. Devising solutions to meet the needs in the teaching and learning environment;
iii. Identifying and assess relevant technologies to be used as part of the solution(s); and iv. Proposing technologies for the solutions, and implement the approved technologies for the solution.

• Content Development for E-Learning
i. Transforming standard learning material availed to students into various formats for interaction on desktop computers, laptops and mobile devices.
ii. Developing multimedia and interactive content for students in conjunction with academic staff

• Safeguarding and maintaining the continued operability of all equipment used for the development of instructional;
i. Instituting and implementing procedures for the checking out and checking in of equipment;
ii. Devising regulations for the safe and considerate operation of relevant equipment;
iii. Putting in place procedures and systems to archive and safeguard developed content; and
iv. Setting-up backup / recovery services for relevant systems.



• Developing and implementing institutional communication systems;
i. Instant messaging systems implementation and support;
ii. Emailing services configuration and support;
iii. Issuing email accounts to students and support them; and
iv. SMS services: integration with institutional systems and their support

• Ensuring the effective use of ICTs and institutional platforms by staff and students;
i. Training staff in ICT essentials for effective implementation of assigned tasks;
ii. Training academic staff on the anti-plagiarism and learning management systems;
iii. Assisting and support academic staff in the development and delivery of instructional content for e-learning;
iv. Training students on working with anti-plagiarism platforms and learning through learning management systems; and
v. Supporting students and staff in relevant systems

• Institutional Events and Outreach;
i. Providing multimedia services for institutional events;
ii. Availing platforms for dissemination of information on research and publications;
iii. Developing multimedia content reaching out to the different sectors of the society;
iv. Implementing platforms for social engagement of the institution and the public and;
v. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Manager, Information Systems.

Qualifications and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Related;
• Two (2) years post qualification experience;
• Diploma in Education is an added advantage;
• A Master’s degree in the related field or Business Administration is an added advantage.
