Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the following post:

LIBRARY DEPARTMENT

SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT 1

The Senior Library Assistant 1 will be mainly responsible for offering classification, indexing and circulation services.

Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Classifying library materials using the Library of Congress classification scheme and other contemporary classification standards.
Indexing journal articles using Resource Description and Access (RDA) system.
Creating spine labels for processed library materials.
Creating barcodes which will be put in processed library materials.
Charging and discharging of library books using the Library Management System.
Assisting users to use the Online Public Access Catalogue.
Assisting patrons to access books from the Open Shelf, Reserve and Core Collections.
Performing shelving and shelf reading duties.
Participating in stock taking exercises.
Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.
May be redeployed to any library section or university campus as and when necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS

National Diploma in Library & Information Science
The candidate must have at least two years working experience at Senior Library Assistant 2 level or an equivalent level in an academic library.
