Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the above position that has arisen within the Shepco Group of companies in Bulawayo. The person will be inter alia responsible for the following:-

Duties and Responsibilities

• Formulates, reviews and updates Safety Health and Environment policy and procedures and ensures that staff becomes familiar with these procedures.
• Carrying out workplace inspections and take appropriate action to ensure compliance with workplace safety standards
• Organizes and coordinates in-house and external safety training courses to increase hearth and safety awareness at all levels in the organisation.
• Evaluates hazardous conditions and recommends appropriate preventive measures including engineering controls, personal protective equipment (PPE), etc.
• Identifies inherent and potential hazards and communicates to employees measures to avoid the dangers.
• Collates and analyses accident data and recommends intervention strategies to eliminate/reduce risk of future occurrences and incidents of ill-hearth and lost working hours.
• Participates in accident/incident investigations and makes the necessary recommendations.
• Carries out regular fire drills and liaises with emergency services, as necessary, regarding emergency procedures, communications and fire safety.
• Keeps abreast of SHE legislation and advises line managers on current legislation, regulations and practices and trends in occupational health and safety.
• Prepares various health, safety and environment reports and statistical data on health and safety performance.
• Compile and maintains complete accurate records of accidents and incidents for management decision-making

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal applicant should possess the following qualifications:-
• A Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health and safety/Environmental Management.
• 3 years working experience in the same field.
• Good communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills.
• Be a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
