Duties and Responsibilities

Working from home and at project location -  In this role, you will spend some time providing part-time remote support (e.g. from your home) to VSO projects or partners, and also a set period working full-time in the project location and/or VSO office.

The Safe, peaceful, and Resilient community (SPARC) Investment aims to further VSO’s ability to build social cohesion and resilience in fragile spaces. It aims to create the environmental, social, and human prerequisites to strengthen the agency and achieve the wellbeing of primary actors and their communities within these spaces. Under the supervision and guidance of the Project Manager, Resilience Specialist will lead together with the partner BHASO to implement the DRR and Resilience related activities in Bikita District. Based in Masvingo Province.

• Two years of experience with demonstrated expertise in implementing preparedness and early recovery/ post disaster interventions.
• Experience in facilitating trainings/ workshops in the communities or and at organizational level;
• Experience in developing and implementing disaster and vulnerability focused interventions successfully.
• Experience in project budget management capabilities, and M&E.
• Good knowledge of Manica province context will be of advantage.

Essential
• Bachelor’s degree in climate change and resilience, environment, disaster management, or any other relevant field
• Good knowledge of the context for the project areas of expertise;
• Ability to maintain good working relationships with all project stakeholders;
• Ability to establish and maintain systems within project operations;
• Excellent knowledge of English, good working knowledge of Portuguese and local language ideally.
• Ability to conduct research and write analytical technical report in English.
• Ability to Facilitate and conducting risk assessment at community level
• Knowledge on resilience interventions, especially in most marginalised communities’ context in Bikita , Masvingo province, Zimbabwe.
• Ability in developing/ updating training module and disaster risk preparedness and management plans
• Strong conceptual and analytical skills
• Ability to work in rural areas and in complex environment,
• Demonstrated ability to manage technical co-operation projects of international organizations; Ability to understand and effectively work with Government workers, NGOs, Community based organisation (CBOs) and UN agencies.
