Job Description

REGISTERED GENERAL NURSE / AMBULANCE TECHNICIAN (MALE)
Reporting to the Director Health Services, the incumbent will respond to medical emergencies, assess and stabilize patients, provide nursing interventions, and facilitate safe patient transportation while maintaining the highest standards of professional practice, patient safety, and confidentiality.

Duties and Responsibilities

Respond promptly to medical emergency calls and provide immediate medical assistance.
Assess patients' conditions and administer appropriate first aid, emergency treatment, and life-support interventions.
Stabilize and safely transport patients to the nearest appropriate referral or healthcare facility.
Deliver comprehensive nursing care, including patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, and health education.
Monitor and document patients' conditions and treatment provided during transportation and care.
Collaborate with doctors, hospitals, clinics, and emergency services to ensure continuity of patient care.
Operate ambulances safely and in accordance with traffic regulations and organizational policies.
Conduct routine checks and maintenance of ambulance equipment and supplies to ensure operational readiness.
Maintain accurate patient records, incident reports, and treatment documentation.
Adhere to professional standards, ethical guidelines, patient confidentiality requirements, and safety protocols.
Participate in emergency preparedness activities, training programs, and continuous professional development initiatives.
Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations and organizational policies.

Qualifications and Experience

Desired Attributes:

A Diploma in Registered General Nursing (RGN);
Valid Nursing Council of Zimbabwe (NCZ) Practicing Certificate;
Professional Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification.
Valid registration with the Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (AHPCZ)
Valid, clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence
Valid Defensive Driving Certificate
Minimum of three (3) years' experience in nursing and/or emergency medical care.
Sound knowledge of emergency response procedures and pre-hospital patient care.
Knowledge of nursing practices, patient assessment, medication administration, and wound management.
Understanding of infection prevention and control protocols.
Knowledge of patient transportation procedures and ambulance operations.
Familiarity with medical documentation and record-keeping requirements.
Understanding of professional ethics, patient rights, and confidentiality standards.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
Strong patient assessment and clinical skills.
Good problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and compassion.
Physically fit and capable of handling emergency situations.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Commitment to patient safety and quality healthcare delivery.
