Overview
An emerging regional institute on Natural Resource Governance and Environmental Law in Africa is committed to advancing research, policy engagement, capacity building, and thought leadership across the continent. The Institute works at the intersection of natural resources, energy transition, and sustainable development, with a growing portfolio of multi-country initiatives in Southern and broader Africa. As the organization expands its regional footprint, it seeks to strengthen its strategic communications to enhance visibility, influence policy processes, and shape narratives on critical issues such as energy transition, critical minerals, and environmental governance. The Institute is therefore recruiting a Regional Communications and Multimedia Officer to lead the development and execution of a modern, digital-first communications strategy that supports its mission and amplifies its impact across the region.

Objectives of this role
The Regional Communications and Multimedia Officer will lead the design and implementation of integrated communication and multimedia strategies that position the Institute as a leading voice on natural resource governance and energy transition in Africa. The role will focus on strengthening thought leadership, enhancing stakeholder engagement, supporting policy influence, and leveraging digital and multimedia tools to communicate research, evidence, and impact effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities
Strategic Communications and Positioning
• Develop and implement a regional communications strategy aligned with the Institute’s strategic priorities
• Position the organisation as a thought leader through targeted communication of research, policy outputs, and insights
• Translate complex research and policy issues into accessible and compelling content for diverse audiences

Multimedia Content and Digital Storytelling
• Lead the production of high-quality multimedia content, including videos, infographics, podcasts, and digital campaigns
• Develop storytelling approaches that highlight community voices, policy impact, and research outcomes
• Manage editorial calendars and ensure consistent, high-quality content across platforms

Digital Platforms and Audience Engagement
• Manage and grow the organisation’s digital presence (website, social media, newsletters)
• Use data and analytics to track performance, understand audiences, and refine communication strategies
• Strengthen engagement with key stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, private sector actors, and civil society

Regional and Project Communications
• Support communication for multi-country projects, ensuring coherence and alignment across countries
• Work closely with programme teams to document and communicate project outcomes, lessons, and impact
• Develop communication products for regional dialogues, convenings, and policy processes

Partnerships and Visibility
• Build and maintain relationships with media, partners, and key influencers to amplify the organisation’s reach
• Support strategic partnerships, including private sector engagement, through targeted communication initiatives
• Identify opportunities to increase the organisation’s visibility in regional and global platforms

Branding and Knowledge Management
 Ensure consistency in branding, messaging, and visual identity across all platforms
 Manage and organise multimedia assets, including photos, videos, and publications
 Support knowledge management by packaging and disseminating research outputs effectively

Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications and Experience
 Degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
 At least 5 years of experience in communications, with a strong focus on digital media and multimedia production
 Demonstrated experience in development, policy, or research organisations
 Strong skills in multimedia production (video editing, graphic design, digital storytelling tools)
 Experience managing organisational social media and websites
 Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly
• Experience working across multiple countries or regions is an added advantage
• Familiarity with sustainability, environmental, or social justice issues is desirable.
