Job Description

We are seeking qualified and experienced Quality Assurance and SHE Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Director, the successful applicants will, among other key duties, be responsible for:

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and implement Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) such as HACCP, ISO 22000, and FSSC 22000 to ensure the factory meets local and international standards.
• Plan and lead internal, external, and third-party audits. This includes managing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to close any identified gaps.
• Evaluate and audit raw material suppliers to ensure materials meet company specifications before entering the production line.
• Monitor hygiene, sanitation and environmental controls.
• Manage the lab and sanitation teams to ensure effective cleaning and pathogen testing (e.g., for Salmonella or Listeria).
• Investigate consumer complaints using root cause analysis and manage product recall procedures if safety risks are detected.
• Educate production and technical staff on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety protocols to foster a "culture of quality".
• Ensure operations comply with relevant Food Safety Laws, Regulations and Standards.
• Develop and implement safety policies, conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
• Conduct chemical (fat, salt, sugar, moisture), physical (color, texture), and microbiological (microbial analysis for pathogens like E.coli and Salmonella) testing on food products.
• Sample and analyze incoming raw materials, packaging materials, and finished goods to ensure they meet specifications.
• Perform in-line checks and analyze samples during production to ensure consistency.
• Calibrate, operate, and sanitize lab equipment like spectrometers, microscopes, and pH meters.
• Document, analyze, and report test results accurately, maintaining detailed lab logs.
• Assist in product development trials and testing shelf-life samples.
• Implement environmental management systems, monitor emissions, and ensure compliance with environmental laws.
• Conduct site inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
• Maintain records and prepare reports on safety, health and environmental performance.
• Collaborate with Management and Stakeholders to promote a safety-first culture.
• Ensure identified procedures are documented and controlled
• Compile internal audit and corrective action reports.
• Work with H/R /Training to co-ordinate/develop training programs for employees who have QMS/EMS/SMS/HACCP responsibilities to foster employee awareness.
• Draw up and implement programs to improve EOSH systems in consultation with the Plant Manager.
• Process weekly/monthly EOSH reports on implementation progress and continuous improvement.
• Any other duties that may be assigned including supporting 24/7 production cycles at the Plant.

Qualifications and Experience

• A degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology or related qualification.
• A Master’s Degree shall be an added advantage.
• Food Safety Professional Certifications.
• At least 5 years’ experience with exposure to quality, environmental and occupational health and safety implementation and maintenance.

• Proficiency in SHE and Quality management systems software
• Ability to liaise with regulatory authorities and certification bodies
• Deep knowledge of food safety legislation and the ability to use Quality Management Software (QMS) or ERP systems for traceability.
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the interpersonal finesse to lead cross-functional teams (Production, Maintenance, R&D).
