Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill in a newly created post of Public Relations and Community Participation Officer in the Town Secretary's Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Town Secretary the individual Officer will be having the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Handling all issues of planned publicity campaigns and public relations activities in liaison with Heads of various departments.
2. Promoting the good will and positive image of Council
3. Rebranding Norton Town Council.
4. Managing the Council's Communications, risk and opportunities with different clients and stakeholders.
5. Initiate and organise promotional events such as press conferences, open day exhibitions, tours and visits.
6. Being the spokesperson for Council including attending to complaints.
7. Developing a media relations strategy.
8. Designing, writing and producing presentations, press releases, articles, leaflets, in-house journals, reports publicity brochures and information for websites.
9. Arranging all consultative meetings and programming the Community engaged calendar.
10. Preparation of monthly and annual reports for the Town Secretary.
11. Managing and updating Council websites and all social media interactions.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience
1. The incumbent should be aged between thirty (30) and fifty (50) years.
2. A degree in Public Relations, Communication, Journalism, Media or related field.
3. A Master's degree would be an added advantage.
4. Should be proficient in at least three languages preferably English, Shona or Ndebele.
5. At least three years post qualifying experience in Public Relations and community engagement.
6. At least a years' experience in a local Authority would be an added advantage.
