Job Description

The role is aimed at addressing the challenge of lack of creativity and innovation for entrepreneurship and social development amongst the youth, which affects their ability to establish sustainable businesses and employment creating initiatives. The project model will link capacity building on design thinking, to promote cognizant ideation, technology-based solutions for development and facilitate partnerships and networks for mentorship and resources mobilization. To ensure the effective implementation of the project, SOS Children’s Villages in Zimbabwe is looking for the services of a Project Officer, to support implementation of the project by providing technical, management and administrative support. The project officer will work in collaboration with the Family Strengthening Programme Coordinator and shall be accountable to SOS Children’s Villages and her partners on management of project resources and attainment of results. The Project Officer will report to the Family Strengthening Programme Coordinator for day-to day activities and work closely with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Recreation, Young Africa Zimbabwe and the other project partners

Duties and Responsibilities

The Project Officer will be responsible for coordination, implementation, administration, M&E and reporting on the project activities. S/he will take overall responsibility for liaison with all project implementing partners to ensure successful implementation of the project by:
•Managing project implementation and collaborating with the implementing partners to ensure successful implementation of the Heimstaden project.
•Coordination of project implementation and support to young people, implementing partners and provision of quality youth empowerment services and technical support to the SOS Children’s Villages FSP and project implementing partners.
•Promoting knowledge sharing and learning within the project.
•Ensures effective implementation of the project and application of RBM tools for planning, budgeting, implementing and monitoring of the programme, tracking use of financial resources in accordance with SOS Children’s Villages policies and regulations.
•In collaboration with Young Africa Zimbabwe and partners, develop strategies and plans to ensure successful implementation of the project.
•Undertakes constant monitoring and analysis of the project environment and facilitates timely readjustments. Work with relevant stakeholders and partners to facilitate collection and collation of data for baseline and tracking of project performance indicators.
•Preparation of reports on project achievements, delivery and other areas of accountability to SOS Children’s Villages for regular performance monitoring and ensure implementation of any corrective actions as recommended.
Support project implementing partners and coordinate linkage of results across all the project components
•In context of inclusive business models, encourage stakeholder collaboration and dialogue on the project and related matters.
•Provision of technical support to the young persons participating in the project.
•Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to the project.
• Liaise with the Partner Organisation and M&E to mobilize enrolled youth’s for the Heimstaden activities in line with individual youth case plans.
•Supervise project activities/trainings that include Enterprise and Business Development trainings, Passport to Success Life Skills Training, Mentorship and Coaching.
•Support youth’s with business plan development during the training period
•Plan and assess employment/mentorship programs for young people.
•Identify micro business opportunities in the district of operation and provide youths with guidance on the choice of scalable start-up businesses.
Promote innovations in implementation of the project, also identifying potential synergies and encourage partnership in delivery of project activities.
•Facilitate linkages with similar projects within Zimbabwe and promote collaboration.
•Effectively participates and ensures sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice on issues related to youth development and youth innovations.
•Communicate ideas and information to improve project implementation and reach.
•Works closely with the Young Africa Zimbabwe and partners to build a knowledge hub and advocate best practices for youth empowerment and employability.
•Demonstrates integrity by modelling the SOS Children’s Villages core values.
•Promotes the vision, mission and strategic goals of SOS Children’s Villages in Zimbabwe

Qualifications and Experience

Competencies:

• Team Player
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Excellent analytical and writing skills
• ICT literacy and ability to operate with on-line web-based applications.
• Knowledge of small and medium enterprise development within the Zimbabwe economic context.
• Knowledge and the ability to apply communication methods and techniques.
• Ability to lead project planning, results-based management and reporting including documentation of success stories.
• Promotes a knowledge sharing and learning culture.
• Focuses on impact and result for the youth and responds positively to feedback.
• Effective communication skills in various contexts: project planning, mentoring, training and making presentations.
• Ability to build strong relationships with youth and external actors.
• Able to Display cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.
Qualifications
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Management/Administration, Development Studies, Commerce or related field.
• Experience of 3 years (Masters) or 5 years’ (Degree) in providing project management support, leading implementation, monitoring and evaluation of youth empowerment projects and related assignments.
• Proven experience in facilitating Entrepreneurship & Business Development Trainings and Life Skills training.
• Proven understanding and experience in youth development issues, empowerment and current thinking relative to entrepreneurship development, and partnerships development
• Experience working with community- based organizations and micro, small and medium enterprises market in Zimbabwe will be an asset.
• Good organization and coordination skills, with experience interrelationships between different stakeholders.
