Job Description

BACKGROUND
Mwenezi Development Training Centre (MDTC) is a local based PVO operating in Mwenezi, Masvingo, Chiredzi, and Beitbridge districts. MDTC implements diversified programmes to enhance the livelihoods of vulnerable communities. The organization has received funding from USAID through World Food Programme (WFP) to implement the Zambuko Livelihoods Initiative Programme in Chiredzi, Masvingo and Mwenezi Districts of Zimbabwe from November 2024 to April 2025. The following vacant positions are available.

PROJECT OFFICER – LIVESTOCK x 1 (5 months)

Contract Period​:​December 2024 to April 2025

Reporting to the District Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
✓ Effective community mobilization and sensitization for Zambuko Resilience Initiative programme activities in the assigned wards.
✓ Stakeholder coordination at ward level working closely with ward-based government technical line ministries i.e., Crops and Livestock, Veterinary Services, Mechanization, Rural District Council, Ministry of Health and Child Care, Women Affairs, DDF etc.
✓ Conducting beneficiary selection and registration of small livestock farmers using agreed selection criteria, facilitating community ranking, and validation of community ranking and finally registering selected people in project database.
✓ ​Form Livestock Production Committees, including identifying lead farmers, group formation,
✓ Train farmers on small livestock production, improved housing, fodder production and processing, asset maintenance and support the implementation of demonstration lead farmers and their clusters.
✓ Planning and scheduling of project tasks for all field monitoring activities, weekly and monthly and submit to the District Coordinator.
✓ Monitoring and reporting progress of livestock activities, projects sites activities, crop and livestock situation and markets monitoring in the assigned wards.
✓ Produce reports on help desk, suggestion box related issues and programme meetings minutes.
✓ Ensuring proper record keeping (filing) relating to livestock related activities (i.e., primary registers, attendance registers, training material, training summary reports), Non-Food Items (NFI) inventory.
✓ Promote sustainable utilization of natural resources for environmental sustainability.
✓ Ensuring that assets, motor bike assigned to him/her is kept clean and in a sound condition while undertaking bike checks daily.
✓ Report incidences to the District Coordinator within 24 hours of their occurrence.
✓ Do any other duties as assigned by the District Coordinator.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience
➢ Minimum of a Diploma in Agriculture, or equivalent
➢ Possession of a relevant higher qualification is an added advantage;
➢ Experience with practical field related projects.
➢ Experience in setting up research trials and demonstrations is an added advantage.
➢ Possession of Class 3 Driver’s License and ability to ride a motor bike is a requirement.
➢ At least two (2) years proven experience in implementing Agriculture (Animal Husbandry) programmes.
➢ Good computer skills/knowledge in SPSS, ODK, Microsoft office package and web conferencing applications.
