What is Uplift Community Empowerment Trust?

Uplift is a community based local NGO that strives to empower deaf and blind children through social inclusion, social protection from early childhood development and income generating projects for guardians taking care of deaf children. Uplift was formed in 2019 and is registered as a Trust. The areas of operation include (Mabvuku ,Mufakose, Dzivarasekwa, Chitungwiza, Epworth) and in Bulawayo (Makokoba , Mzilikazi & Cowdray park). Over the years Uplift will expand and cover rural areas according continuousto needs based assessments. The future years in operation shall concretely embed all the system and structural changes inside the institutions to allow sustained project outcomes and a smooth phasing-out of the program. Uplift is still in the process of seeking funding with many donors showing interest in this cause.

Description of Services to Be Provided
The incumbent will be working with the core team made up of the Founder / Director and Project Assistant The services of Project Advisor will be done online until all processes and infastruture are set in place. As the Project Advisor you will meet with potential donors together with the Executive Director , submit concept notes and full proposal to donors and be the liason focal person. The Project Advisor will do sensitisation meetings in the community , mapping exercises and recruitment of deaf champions and community advisors that we will work with to identity deaf children, Assisted by the Project Assistant.

The Project Avisor will report to the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

Activities to be delivered include:

Direct support to Implementing Partners

• Meet with potential Donors and present Uplift concept note / full proposal.
• Reviewing the existing concept note and align with current needs and donor expectation.
• Overseeing all activities for two projects
• Collaboration with NGOs in the same intervention areas
• Sourcing for subgrants for NGOs already focusing on deaf children
• Heading Uplift activities and office in the absence of the Executive Director.
• Leading all Uplift activities as per description of services to be provided above.
• Advising the Executive Director on the direction of intervention and strategic area.
• Setting up technical reporting frameworks and reports thereof.
• Identifying and recruitment of deaf champions for participation in the project activities.
• Recruitment of community volunteers and trainings thereof.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualification
1. A Masters in Development Studies, Public Administration , International Development or Community Development.
2. Position suits mature individual with atleast 8 years in NGO experience.
3. Experience in working with persons with disabilities will be an added advantage.

Personal attributes and capabilities

• Presentation skills at Donor Level.
• Good communication skills at senior level
• Knowledge of Project management
• Good knowledge of cocept Note writing and full proposal.
