Job Description
PLANNING TECHNICIAN (GRADE 8)
The incumbent shall be reporting to the E.O. Planning & Environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
JOB SPECIFICATION
The incumbent will be responsible for inter alia:
1. Maintaining an up-to-date inventory of departmental records.
2. Assisting in the preparation of the district annual development plan and strategic plan as well as rolling plans.
3. Producing layout plans for Rural Service Centres and business centres in conjunction with the head of department.
4. Assist in the development of local plans and excision of communal land.
5. Facilitating pegging of stands at R.S.C’s and business centres in consultation with the Department of Spatial Planning and Development.
6. To conduct development control in the district.
7. Conduct site inspections and feasibility assessments for proposed developments.
8. Issue enforcement orders and prohibition orders and recommend demolition orders for non-compliance with model building by-laws.
9. Assessment of building plans.
10. Any other Council duty assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Applications for the position must meet the following minimum requirements:
* National Diploma in Regional and Urban Planning/equivalent and a higher qualification is an added advantage.
* At least two years’ experience in a similar role in a Local Authority environment or Public Sector.
* Distinct computer skills such as AUTOCAD, GIS and Survey.
* Membership of a professional body is an added advantage.
* Police clearance.
* Must be at least 25 years of age.
