Job Description

The Adult Rape Clinic (ARC) is a Registered Non-Governmental Organization that offers medical and psychosocial support care to survivors of sexual gender-based violence (SGBV). ARC is looking for a part-time Media and Communications Officer stationed in Harare. ARC’s employment policy respects gender and human rights and offers opportunities to all without discrimination.

Job Description
This position requires a highly motivated, qualified and experienced individual. The part time Media and Communications Officer will play a pivotal role in amplifying the Adult Rape Clinic’s visibility and advocacy efforts on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) prevention. Working closely with the leadership team, this part-time position will support the management of ARC’s website and social media platforms, content creation, ensure timely and impactful communication with stakeholders, and strengthen ARC’s public engagement through strategic media collaborations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain and update ARC’s website and social media handles with relevant program content, survivor resources, and advocacy materials.
• Develop and implement communications strategies aligned with ARC’s mission and target audiences.
• Draft and disseminate newsletters, press releases, donor reports, and stakeholder updates.
• Design and produce Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, including posters, videos, and multilingual content (English, Shona, Ndebele).
• Support digital campaigns and monitor social media performance to increase awareness and engagement.
• Collaborate with journalists, influencers, and media consultants to enhance ARC’s public profile.
• Ensure all communications uphold confidentiality, trauma-informed principles, and ethical standards.
• Assist with proposal development and documentation of impact stories for donor reporting.
• Coordinate with all departments to publicize activities and strengthen ARC’s visibility.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications
 Communications and Media-related degree: Public Relations, Journalism, Communications and Media, etc.
 A Master’s degree in the above disciplines is an added advantage.
 Certification in digital media and/or social media is an added advantage.
 An International Computer Driving License (ICDL) certificate is an added advantage.

Experience
 At least 3 years of proven experience in digital content creation, social media management, and media stakeholder engagement.
 Strong understanding of gender-based violence issues and ethical communication practices.
 Excellent writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills.

Essential Skills
 Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite), publishing software and website management platforms (e.g. WordPress).
 Passionate about social justice, gender equity, and survivor empowerment.
 Familiarity with Zimbabwe’s media landscape and civil society networks.
 Experience working with NGOs, advocacy campaigns, or community-based organizations.
 Digital and social media posting skills: the ability to plan, create, and post on social media while working independently.
 Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail management, competent in video recording & editing, good report writing skills.
 Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt messaging to diverse audiences.
 A clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence will be an added advantage.
