Job Description


Shamva Gold Mine is seeking an experienced and results oriented Open Pit Engineer to join its team based in Shamva. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the Open Pit Mine Engineer will be responsible for the following:

Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinating all project related activities from planning phase to mining phase of a possible Open Pit.
• Conducting a pre-feasibility and feasibility study on the Shamva Hill Gold Project.
• Ensuring delivery of high quality work complying with all legal requirements and standards.
• Involving internal and external stakeholders where necessary to ensure statutory obligations are addressed.
• Ensuring that all the projects’ environmental impacts have been correctly assessed and suitable mitigation measures adopted.
• Assessing and documenting all the risks associated with the project and ensure that the suitable mitigation measures are adopted.
• Agreeing to the design of the project both in outline and detail against the agreed scope of work
• Certifying project activities as they are properly carried out.
• Developing mine design criteria, mining method, option selection and schedule.
• Ensuring that necessary quality control and inspections takes place during the life of the project.
• Monitoring, controlling and reporting on the Project costs and schedule throughout the project.

Qualifications and Experience

Requirements: Qualification and Skill.
• Degree in Mining Engineering.
• Project Management qualification will be an added advantage
• Eight years (8) extensive experience in an open-pit mining environment, of which a minimum of 4 years should have been in a leadership role managing contractors.
• Ability to analyse the resource model and come up with mining designs.
• Strong Computer literacy in special mining packages (Surpac, Data Mining and Autocad) will be an advantage
• Demonstrable understanding of relevant applicable legislations and Mining Regulations
• Excellent leadership, decision making, stakeholder engagement and critical thinking skill.
• Excellent communication and motivation skills
