JOB SUMMARY
The Nutrition Officer will oversee the technical implementation of nutrition-specific and health related interventions at district level for the project, ensuring high-quality programming for the prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition and for improved health outcomes. The role will focus on managing Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) cases, alongside promoting optimal infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC).
JOB DESCRIPTION
This position requires a strong understanding of emergency nutrition and health programming and practical experience working in rural communities to implement such projects. The Nutrition Officer will provide technical expertise to consortium partners and District Food and Nutrition Security Committees, supporting the integration of nutrition and health in emergency programming. The ideal candidate must demonstrate robust capacity-building and coordination skills to ensure effective implementation. In addition, the incumbent will promote health interventions, including Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) framework, emphasizing the integration of health and nutrition services. Additionally, facilitation and negotiation skills are crucial for achieving results within multi-sector teams, along with a solid understanding of mainstreaming principles, gender, and protection.
Objective 1: Support the implementation of nutrition activities in the project
• Oversee the implementation of Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) protocols and guidelines in collaboration with MoHCC.
• Conduct regular assessments and screenings to identify malnourished children.
• Ensure timely referral and treatment of malnourished cases in the district.
• Monitor beneficiaries' nutritional status and collaborate with the program team to adjust interventions as needed.
• Provide technical guidance and support to health workers and community volunteers.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of and facilitate the rollout of the care group approach, IYCF in emergencies (IYCF-e), and other key interventions.
• Serve as the lead nutrition and health resource person within the consortium at the district level.
• Promote care groups in partnership with FNSCs and sub-district stakeholders in the project area.
• Organize and lead sensitization sessions for District FNSCs and other district stakeholders on care group integration.
• Monitor community trainings to ensure the quality implementation of nutrition activities.
• Collaborate with MoHCC to design and produce appropriate IEC materials for the project.
• Actively participate in IMAM data collection, analysis, and the compilation of quality reports on project performance.
• Implement activities in alignment with the work plan/Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP).
• Conduct regular technical review meetings at the district level to ensure program quality.
• Contribute to developing tools needed for proper project implementation.
• Produce timely reports for internal use and donor updates on ongoing programming.
• Support health interventions, including managing childhood illnesses under the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) framework, emphasizing the integration of health and nutrition services.
Objective 2: Ensure timely and accurate reporting of project activities
• Participate in weekly and monthly district meetings.
• Generate activity, weekly, monthly, and quarterly narrative and quantitative reports.
• Compile statistical data and draft appropriate activity reports.
• Analyse the nutrition situation and prevailing trends to provide constructive written feedback.
• Contribute to project assessments as determined by the organization.
• Document best practices for learning purposes and to increase project visibility.
• Conduct Community-Based Feedback and Response Mechanism (CBFRM) activities
• Ensure adherence to International Medical Corps standards, policies and procedures
• Represent International Medical Corps interests through participating in different district level coordination meetings and liaising with partners who work on nutrition, health and other key sectors including child protection

QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Public Health Nutrition.
• At least three years of experience implementing emergency nutrition projects.
• Postgraduate qualification in a health-related field (an added advantage).
• Proficiency in local languages (a must).
Required Skills
• Demonstrated experience in mentorship, coaching, and capacity-building.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to work in remote areas.
• Team player with good communication skills.
