Job Description

Under the overall supervision of the IOM Chief of Mission and in coordination with the Project Manager for the Emergency, Preparedness and Response Unit, and technical supervision of IOM’s Migration Health Physician, the successful candidate will assist in providing post-arrival medical support to ‘migrants returnees’ at Points of Entries (POEs) in Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities

Explain the medical procedures to migrants and travellers, and provide the information related to public health emergencies including COVID-19, symptoms, risks and exposure ensuring the individual agrees and acknowledge further steps in case of developing shortness of breath, dry cough and other indicators; Enter data, endorse clearance, assist in managing database, prepare daily and weekly medical statistical report, according to established standards; Accompany the patient to the isolation facility if required and performed a regular follow up of symptoms, make preparations for sample collection, and ensure the specimen is appropriately stored and sent to laboratory for testing; Ensure smooth and timely flow of documents between the IOM border offices and Harare office, including medical tests results; Liaise with the laboratory for case management and case confirmation, receive results of tests in a timely manner, and register the results, liaising with the nearest facility in case of need of transportation of the patient; Monitor progress of the follow-up procedures; arrange further examination and health counselling for migrants in need of counselling; Provide migrants with necessary information regarding the outcome of screening, testing and eventual referral to treatment; Must be able to carry out triage of migrants at the Point of Entry and primary screening, as well as secondary second screening for suspected patients, and assist with registration, data entry and print out of documents. Maintain confidentiality of health information; Must be able to assist with initial management of ill travellers at the borders before referral to an isolation facility; Any other related duties as may be assigned by the IOM border coordinator.

Qualifications and Experience

Education, experience and competencies
Diploma in nursing with a minimum of 2 years work experience in clinical nursing preferably in a high paced medical facility, International NGO or UN Organisations; Radiography Technician qualification with 3 years of experience can be considered as well; Be a Registered General Nurse, holding a valid Practising Certificate; Work experience in Refugee Settlement and Migration Health desirable; Training and experience in communicable diseases and other and migration health is considered an asset; Experience in applying nationally and internationally accepted protocols and guideline Experience in disease diagnostic ; health management is absolute advantage
Languages
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
