Job Description

Responsible for the coordination of TB laboratory diagnostic services at the National Level to ensure timely and high quality services for all forms of TB and laboratory surveillance of the disease and other related bacteria.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Proactively identifies gaps in TB diagnostic services and formulates recommendations for strategic support as well as collaboratively with key stakeholders and partners mobiles resources to strengthen TB Laboratory systems.
• Provides leadership , oversight and supervision for the national l TB Reference Laboratory (NTB RL) in Bulawayo and the TB Section of the National Microbiology Reference Laboratory(NMRL) in Harare.
• Ensure enrollment of all TB laboratories at all levels in quality control and quality assurance programs
• Support the Implementation of laboratory quality management systems towards accreditation for the NTBRL and the NMR L.
• Focal person for contributions towards the national laboratory service policy fornication, review, and national strategic planning for the national TB control program
• Ensures progressive increase in the cove rage of GeneXpert EQA and GxAlert network and identifies and resolves implementation bottlenecks timely
• Compile and consolidate quarterly performance report from all laboratories,
• Oversee implementation of regular systematic TB laboratory supervision
• Developing and strengthening Laboratory partnership between Zimbabwe and International organizations
• Ensuring and promoting inter-departmental collaboration and effective contribution to regional and international organizations
• Providing effective leadership of the laboratory system
• Ensuring laboratory policy implantation across the tiered levels
• Training laboratory and clinical staff on Xpert utilization and integrated use

Qualifications and Experience

• Basic degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a reputable University
• Specialist Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences OR University Post-graduate training in Public Health OR Clinical Epidemiology OR Microbiology.
• At least 3 years post graduate experience working in a laboratory conducting advanced TB diagnosis {TB culture and DST, Molecular Techniques)
• Recognized training in TB
• Proven computer competence with spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and database applications
