Job Description

The Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) is undergoing transformation to spearhead Rural Development and National Food, Feed, Fibre and Biofuel Security for the Nation in pursuit of Vision 2030.

The Authority invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill the following position:

National Manager – Agriculture And Agro Industry Development

Reporting to the Director – Agriculture and Agro Industry Development, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing crop, livestock, fisheries and wildlife production at ARDA Estates.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
The incumbents’ key responsibilities shall include but not limited to: -
 Developing the Agriculture and Agro industry development strategic and annual business plans to achieve the Authority’s objectives and targets.
 Planning, budgeting, forecasting, implementing, managing and monitoring of agricultural activities and productivity according to annual production programmes.
 Supervision of Estate and Project Managers.
 Supervising soil sampling and fertilizer recommendations for the Estates.
 Formulating plant protection and nutrition programmes and ensuring adherence to good agronomic practices.
 Enrolment of schemes, key value chain actors [government, developmental agencies and other key stakeholders] for assured sustainable production at ARDA Estates.
 Supervising logistics for inputs at Estates.
 Achievement of set production targets for Food, Feed and Fibre crops at Estates.
 Coordinating Capital Expenditure Planning and procedures at Estates.
 Ensuring timely land preparation, planting and harvesting for the Estates.
 Coordinating training and capacity building for Smallholder Farmers and Irrigation Schemes to ensure best management practices.
 Preparation of Weekly and Monthly Reports for the Authority.
 Participating in strategy formulation and implementation for Agriculture and Agro Industry Development Function.
 Identifying opportunities for Agriculture and Agro industry development and planning for implementation.
 Research and Development and any other duties as maybe assigned by the Authority.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
 Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy/Agriculture or related field.
 At least ten (7) years hands on experience in managing both Crops, Livestock, Fisheries and Wildlife Operations.
 Must demonstrate technical competence.
