Job Description
1. Job Description
A highly motivated and experienced individual required to run a Molecular Biology laboratory with a newly established world class Plant Tissue Culture Facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing research and executing methodologies for plant tissue culture to achieve production goals. He/She will be responsible for managing all laboratory and greenhouse technicians and supervisors, maintaining accurate inventories, executing set production plans and meeting set client orders. This position therefore requires a hands-on approach.
Duties and Responsibilities
2. Position Reports to: Executive Director - Research & Extension
3. Primary Responsibilities
3.1 Design molecular or cellular laboratory experiments, oversee their execution and interpret resu Its.
3.2 Compile and analyze molecular or cellular experimental data and adjust experimental designs as necessary.
3.3 Conduct applied research aimed at improvements in areas such as disease testing and crop quality
3.4 Establishing methodologies for potato, blueberry, banana, sweet potato and cut flower somatic embryogenesis, micropropagation and germplasm cleaning.
3.5 Ensuring timely production cycles, reduced contamination levels and end to end traceability of all plant lets dispatched from the lab.
3.6 Developing and implementing laboratory/greenhouse protocols that enable maximum production.
3.7 Providing technical guidance to all laboratory and greenhouse staff
3.8 Setting goals and conducting performance evaluations for all staff members
3.9 Maintaining detailed and organized records of project data and other materials as needed. 3.10 Establishing and following up on laboratory and greenhouse safety protocols
3.11 Any other duties as assigned

4.6 Experience in aseptic technique, microbial systems, microbial culturing, standard molecular biology techniques, cloning, sequence analysis
Qualifications and Experience
5. Qualifications
5.1 Degree in Molecular Biology or equivalent
5.2 At least five (5) years of previous experience in a commercial plant tissue culture laboratory in a supervisory position.
