Job Description

These positions will provide and facilitate access to mental health and psychosocial support for CALHIV and youth living with HIV. He/she will conduct group and individual cognitive behavioural therapeutic sessions with abused children and CALHIV and youth facing or at risk of trauma. These cadres will coordinate and build skills for community workforce to screen and refer enrolled children and their caregivers for mental health and psychosocial services. The officers will facilitate and train project staff, government stakeholders and community volunteers on first line support (LIVES).

Duties and Responsibilities

• Screen, identify and assessing children for mental health issues
• Assessing VACS survivors, adolescents and youth living with HIV in individual and group settings to develop treatment plans, facilitate linkages to specialised mental health support and work with children, youth and their families to develop appropriate coping skills that facilitate recovery and increase child and family abilities to reduce risk of trauma
• Deliver group and individualised TF-Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and systemic counselling sessions with VACS survivors, adolescents and youth living with HIV
• Support HIV+ pregnant and breastfeeding women including teen mothers at risk for elevated stress during pregnancy and the immediate postpartum period using cognitive behavioural therapy models like the iMBC model to become more resilient, decrease risk for future depression
• Support delivery of a GBV response service package that includes linkages to PEP, EC, STI treatments and provision of non-clinical GBV services that include legal counselling, emergency support and therapeutic support and safe shelter.
• Support
• Work with district Multisectoral Stakeholders to strengthen community systems for preventing VAC, child protection and GBV response that include child protection committees, child advisory boards and GBV multi sectoral coordination structures.
• Coordinate and conduct trainings for communities and government service providers, community volunteer and mentors on LIVES and IPV to enhance and identification and support of survivors of sexual abuse.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and postgraduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and/or Systemic Counselling methods
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience delivering mental health preferably CBT and/or systemic counselling. PEPFAR USAID OVC programming experience is an added advantage.
• Experience working with children experiencing violence and trauma
• Knowledge of technical areas such as HIV, SGBV, child protection, work with adolescents and youth
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders including government representatives, local community organizations, donors, and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrated success providing effective technical assistance and transferring skills to government and communities
