Job Description

The Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI) implements a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded Laboratory Systems Strengthening (LSS) Work Plan for the Ministry of Health and Child Care of Zimbabwe (MOHCC). The following vacancy has arisen within BRTI in collaboration with MOHCC.

M & E DATA ANALYST- LSS PROJECT (X 1, based in Harare)

Accountable to: Program Advisor: Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities
• Interpret data, analyse results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.
• Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
• Build data systems and pipelines.
• Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems.
• Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
• Filter and “clean” data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
• Work with program management to prioritize information needs.
• Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.

Requirements and skills
• Proven working experience as a Data Analyst or Business Data Analyst.
• Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques.
• Hands-on experience with SQL database design.
• Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc), databases (SQL etc), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks).
• Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analysing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Adept or proficient at queries, report writing and presenting findings.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualification Requirements
• Monitoring and Evaluation professional with health program M&E work experience; Graduate degree in Data Science, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Monitoring and Evaluation and/or Public Health desirable. Master’s degree in any of the above disciplines is an added advantage.
• Experience in data processing, database management and reporting using Power BI/Tableau and mapping software such as ArcGIS/QGIS.
• Good interpersonal skills, team player, able to work under pressure. Sensitivity to the concerns of the developing world and able to work with local and national authorities from different cultural and professional backgrounds.
