Job Description

An opportunity has arisen within Nyatsime College for suitably qualified persons to fill in the position of Matron. The successful incumbent will be reporting to the Principal and is responsible for the conduct, discipline, and welfare of the students in the boarding school. The role involves working closely with other members of the teaching staff across the school, as well as administrative staff and other support staff to ensure the efficient and smooth running of the Academy.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Liaises with the Principal/Vice-Principal/ Senior Teacher on pupils who behave exceptionally well and or who misbehave.
• Deeply involved in the selection of prefects.
• Is in charge of the school First Aid Kit and attends to minor ailments and refers seriously ill pupils to the clinic or hospital.
• Reports to the Bursar, all expenditures, shortages, and thefts in the hostels.
• Reports to the Vice Principal/ Principal on a weekly basis on any matter that appears to be important, as the key person in the Boarding Department.
• Supervises, counsels and advises or guides pupils on a day to day basis on social, and personal matters as they grow up and live in the company of others in the Boarding school.
• Supervise students making sure that they are punctual for meals and other school activities such as assemblies.
• Provides a fatherly care to pupils so that they grow in a homely atmosphere where they learn to live with their peers in a harmonious environment and learn to clean and wash their own clothes.
• Supervises hostel workers and makes sure that they clean the toilets, corridors, window panes, floors etc., meticulously well.
• Occasionally conducts roll calls for students during evenings and weekends.
• To do any other duties assigned by the Principal/Vice-Principal / Senior Teacher.

Qualifications and Experience

a) Applicants must be mature and aged between 40 to 55 years
b) Must have worked with students preferably in a boarding environment.
c) Must have a strong Christian background.
d) Should not be under a charge hence police clearance must be availed.
e) Must have Basic First Aid knowledge.
Qualifications
a) Must be a holder of at least an '0' Level certificate with 5 subject passes.
b) A relevant teaching professional qualification preferably with a counselling component would be an added advantage.
