Department: Marketing and Value Chains

Reports To: Projects / Business Advisory Manager

Duty Station: Head Office

Job Purpose

The Marketing and Value Chain Expert will report to the Projects/Business Advisory Manager. The Expert is expected to develop, coordinate, and implement agricultural marketing and value chain development initiatives that improve market access, competitiveness, value addition, investment, and commercialization of agricultural commodities.

The incumbent will provide technical support to agricultural value chains, facilitate strategic partnerships, promote domestic and export market opportunities, and support implementation of the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) mandate.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

* Develop and implement market and value chain development strategies for priority agricultural commodities.
* Identify market opportunities and constraints affecting agricultural value chains.
* Conduct value chain mapping, analysis, and competitiveness assessments.
* Promote value addition, agro-processing, and commercialization initiatives.
* Facilitate market linkages between producers, processors, buyers, exporters, financial institutions, and investors.
* Support development of contract farming and structured marketing systems.
* Coordinate value chain projects and monitor implementation progress.
* Identify investment opportunities across agricultural value chains.
* Provide technical advice on market development policies and regulatory reforms.
* Promote public-private partnerships that strengthen agricultural markets.
* Support export market development and regional trade initiatives.
* Collaborate with research institutions and development partners on value chain development.
* Prepare project proposals, concept notes, business cases, and funding proposals.
* Monitor commodity market trends, prices, supply, demand, and competitiveness.
* Develop marketing plans for strategic agricultural commodities.
* Organize stakeholder consultations, workshops, trade fairs, and investment forums.
* Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and management reports.
* Maintain stakeholder databases and value chain information systems.
* Perform any other duties assigned by the Projects/Business Advisory Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Marketing, Agricultural Marketing, Value Chain Management, Business Management, Development Studies, or a related field.
* A Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
Experience

* At least 5 years’ relevant experience in agricultural marketing, agribusiness, value chain development, or project implementation.
* Experience working with government, development partners, or the private sector is an added advantage.
